From Perrera to Finca Podenco Friends, Murcia – meet Perla

Bev Farmer tells the story of Perla.

Perla arrived on Friday 35d July 2015 and we have given her some space but yet another Podenca terrified out of her mind. This is not fear from a change of circumstances, this is from a deeply rooted sustained abuse of some type. She will need many months of help and support to break her out of this world of terror she lives in.

In the last 3 months we have taken in 5 podencos all very similar issues and it cant be just because they are nervous by nature. Dogs learn by association the positive and the negatives and if treated badly for long enough, establish what hurts them is to be avoided.

So we have a big task ahead of us working with all 5 of them. They set the pace not us, we cannot force them, only when they are ready will they move forward….. it could take a few weeks or a few months we never know.

I am convinced that Perla is related to Willow, they came from the same area same perrera, similar age, body shape, and looks. Both display the same behaviours so maybe subjected to the same treatment.

I did not intend on making a video, it was just a quiet walk round the paddock with Perla but I think it’s important for people to see how deeply traumatised these Podencos can be when they first arrive. Lets hope in a few weeks we can post a totally different Perla.

Poor girl, she is so frightened, doesn’t know where to look and too frightened to even walk. There are some scum bags out there to do this to a little dog. Glad she is safe now.
