    Deejay is every bit as striking as he is sweet. A graceful Podenco Ibicenco with movie star looks, he trots around like a show pony and has completely stolen the hearts of everyone who’s met him.  Rescued after being found stray, Deejay has shown us what a lovely, balanced young lad he is. He can be a little shy when meeting new people, but once he knows you, his affectionate nature shines through and he’ll make a wonderfully loyal companion.  He’s fantastic with other dogs and absolutely loves to play.     The little Podenco Ibicenco girl who walked into the rescue center a few days ago with her tiny backpack is doing really well..  She was diagnosed with meningitis earlier, but thankfully the medication is doing its job and she’s improving every single day.  Our brave little girl is clearly a true fighter.

  • Podenco Browny with Refugiocan – foster or adopt

    Browny has been rescued from a ravine, he was next to his dying mother for which unfortunately nothing could be done.
    He is 5 months old and weighs about 5 kilos, he is very very affectionate and needs a home urgently where he is taken care of forever.

  • 1st May – International Day of the Podenco

    May 1st is the International Day of the Podenco, a day to raise awareness and bring to the worlds attention this much forgotten breed. They are not called “Los Grandes Olvidados for nothing and we call on the Podenco community around the world to support this day.

  • How long should a dog be left alone?

    Dogs are pack animals, they prefer company, whether it is another dog, cat or human.  Many suffer from separation anxiety.  We have always had more than one dog, although now we are down to just one and take her with us most places we go.

    So how long should a dog reasonably be expected to be left alone.

  • Podenca Coco hoping for a forever home.

    Our 12 year old podenca Coco is such a gem. She is sweet and great with other dogs. Towards people she can be a bit shy. Who would like to give this oldie a chance? After 12 years of hunting and having puppies, her last years should be spend on someone’s sofa. She has now gained weight and will be sterilised soon.

    Her suitcases are packed in the hope someone will give this sweet podenca a comfy rest of life.

  • The true face of desolation – old Podenca in the perrera

    The true face of desolation.  Noelia a granny who lived a very hard and unhappy life.  Her little legs are very sore.  So little and cute.
    Weighing only 9 kg.  Only looks for affection since she could never felt anything similar to a caress..She only served to give birth year after year.  She’s 10 years old but it seems like a lifetime of bitterness and pain has taken its toll on her.  You just have to see her, poor thing.

    A perrera, the last place for an elderly podenca abandoned by her hunter who she served faithfully for 10 years!

  • Skin Lesions and Cancer in Dogs

    As a family, we have lost 5 dogs, 1 horse and l cat to different types of cancer.  Lymphoma reared itself as a lump on a galgo’s neck, which had spread.  A sarcoma started bleeding under my horse’s tail.  Cancer developed in my cat’s mouth.  2 more galgos had stomach tumours.

    Weblink to an interesting article on lumps on your dog.  It doesn’t always mean cancer.
