  • SOS Podenco Rescue – Podenco Abel hoping for his forever home

Meet Abel – the quiet soul waiting for his chance .
    Age: 2 years
    Size: 55cm | approx. 16kg (medium)
    Dog-friendly
    Cat-friendly

Abel is one of those special dogs who doesn’t rush into life, he watches, listens, and takes everything in quietly. He’s shy with new people, but once he realises you are safe, you can touch and handle him without any issue. He has a very gentle, cooperative nature.  With other dogs, Abel is calm and social. He isn’t playful right now, but he enjoys being part of the group and draws confidence from canine companions. With time, patience, and kindness, we believe he will blossom into a more expressive dog.  Abel isn’t asking for much, just someone who will see past a shy exterior and give him the space to feel safe. • Podenco Jimbo hoping for his forever home

    From Sharon Bays.

Jimbo arrived at the Mazarron perrera in March this year with his friend or maybe mother Joley. We have no history for these sweet dogs but they were very skinny and in poor condition when they arrived. Maybe dogs dumped by the Hunter owner at the end of the season.
Jimbo has now left the Perrera and initially went into foster, where Adrian and Tracey helped him gain strength and he is now in private kennels. (more…)

  • Never use an electric collar on a podenco – or any dog!

There was uproar at the beginning of 2025 when a UK adopter of 2 podencos saw no problem in using electric collars on the dogs to control them!  Needless to say, the result was 2 terrified dogs back to a hellish life such as the one from which they had been rescued in Spain.

  • Akira Dog Sanctuary – Podenco Vince needs his forever home

  • Podenca Scarlet looking for a forever home

From Sandy at Galgos Rescue Almeria

Let me introduce you to Scarlet, a beautiful 3-year-old Podenco lady.
Scarlet was unfortunately dumped in a perrera… We don’t know her exact past—you can fill in the blanks yourself. What we do know: she’s a sociable, eager to learn, and cheerful girl who gets along well with other dogs and isn’t shy. Like every Podenco, Scarlet needs challenge and exercise. A daily walk, some mental stimulation, and preferably a canine companion at home—that’s what makes her so happy!

  • Hope for Podencos – Candy needs foster or adoption for 22nd November

    Candy

Date of Birth: 1st September 2022
    Gender: Female
    Colour: White and Tan
    Height: 60cm (to the withers)/25kg
Temperament: A little aloof at first but affectionate with people and playful with other dogs
    Cats: Not tested

Candy is very playful but prefers to play with other podencos and sighthounds and can be intimidated by some of the bigger dogs in kennels, she can live with other sighthounds, smaller breeds or as a solo dog. She, like many podencos has a high prey drive so this will need some work when it comes to lead walking. She is friendly and loving with humans and very gentle, although can be a little aloof to begin with – she could live with older children. She wouldn’t enjoy city life, but could cope with a town or anything more rural.

Candy has a condition that makes her prone to mouth ulcers so has to have her teeth brushed daily.

  • Hope for Podencos- Sonny needs a foster or adoption for 22nd November

    Sonny

Date of Birth: 1st January 2023
    Gender: Male
    Size: 65cm (to the withers)/25kg
    Cats: Not tested

Sonny is a large pod who is lovely and friendly and likes to please! He is clever (like most pods) and is food oriented which makes him a great training prospect. He plays nicely with the other dogs, but we think would also do fine in a home on his own where his humans can lavish him with affection and give him lots of time and attention. He’s a confident boy and great around people – as he’s quite large, we think he’d be better suited to slightly older children. Other than that he’s pretty versatile in terms of the type of home he’s looking for!

  • Hope for Podencos – Lucky needs foster or adoption for 22nd November

    Lucky

Date of Birth: 26th May 2022
    Gender: Male
    Size: 55cm (to the withers)/23kg
    Cats: Not suitable for cats

Lucky is known as the velcro dog – he LOVES people, and does do well with both men and women when he first meets them. He’s happy when out and about on walks and doesn’t pull on the lead. He had previously been adopted in Spain but was a little anxious and sensitive around the man in the home so whilst we don’t want to rule out any potential matches we would need to caveat that any men in the home would need to work at his pace and be understanding to any nervousness displayed. Lucky prefers female dogs and would happily live with one or two. Alternatively we think he would also do well as an only dog.

Lucky could live in a town or rural setting, but he does need a garden as he enjoys being outside having a play with his doggy pals.

Lucky is a little over his ideal weight so a weight management plan would be shared with any potential adopters/fosters – this is not causing any health concerns for the vet.
