This terrified little Podenco Andaluz is in Valencia perrera to be killed.
Odie is a small beautiful podenco only a year old and has already suffered much. He has an intense colour like a Sun at sunset and in addition a finesse and elegance that leaps to the eye. He is so scared now… but when he knows he is loved there will be only light and love, and he will be a friend forever.

As usual, my recent visit to Spain was full of action and, even better, rescued dogs! You can read about my visit to ACTIN on this link. From there I spent a couple of days with Bev and Warren and their 26 podencos at the finca they recently moved to. Most of the podencos are waiting for their forever homes, including Solo and Carina. Little puppy Sky and his best buddy Rembrandt already have adoptions arranged, as does Dave and little Maneto Lily. Please contact Bev if you would like more information on her podencos. This is the tale of a little podenco puppy called Julio, because he was found injured by the roadside in Seville in July 2013, saved by Arca Sevilla.
The story of Julio is like many other hunting dogs. When not used for hunting, are not responsive to the expectations of the hunter, they are abandoned to their fate. And their fate is often very poor. So Julio, a young podenquito, just a puppy, probably not starting out as a hunter like his owner wanted, he was alone and abandoned. Looking for life as he could, through fear, hunger and thirst, more thin, more damaged, more suspicious of all … one day, do not know when or how but he suffered an accident and his front leg was seriously damaged. Then came the pain and infection. In these conditions her would soon have died, anonymously, like many others before him.
And these two poor babies on death row (don’t know which perrera).
Lucia and Fernando will die at the end of the week! Can we save them? Reserved but nowhere to go. If somewhere is not found and they are paid for, they will return to the perrera… Just been told Fernando will be pts on THURSDAY!
FERNANDO is only about 8 months old, kind and curious but very scared. He will gain in confidence in a loving home. And Lucia is about 3 years old, terrified in the perrera.

The Canary Island podencos have a very hard life and here’s just one example. Meet Clavel, or Carnation in English. Here is what SARA say.
Clavel is the name we have given to this little male podenco, which the owner brought to our premises on the order of Seprona, who went to the house to process the complaint. They ordered that the dog be taken to our kennels to be treated and of course to be found a new home. The owner knew that the eye had been bad for a long time and that as of course it hadn’t been treated, the eye just exploded, with all the suffering that entails.
It was necessary to remove the eye and now he is recuperating from the operation.
Thank you to Seprona for taking action for this little dog and bringing him to us so that he can be treated.

This young podenco is Orlando, thin and terrified in the perrera on Lanzarote, due to be killed next week. I’ve asked SARA Protectora if they can save him and there are appeals on facebook too. Fingers crossed.
There have also been a few podenco puppies in the killing station in Valencia, Mairena (Seville) and Almeria. In the past few months more people have finally realised what I and Podencoworld (Holland) have been saying for years – that the podencos need help just as the galgos do. Facebook is an excellent medium for sharing the appeals to save the podencos and I’m pleased to report that, beside Pedro the injured podenco, several puppies have also been saved from death through appeals on facebook. BUT they all need forever homes, which can take longer.
