Mostly we hear about galgos at Scooby Medina and Scooby Residencia Valladolid, but they also have podencos waiting for forever homes. Fermin writes about them. Contact Scooby direct if you would like to offer a home to one, or to donate to their care such as sponsoring one.

What would you do in this situation?
What would you do if you got a message saying there was a dog lying injured by some rubbish bins? Clare Roberts had just such an experience earlier this week. Here’s the story.
‘I received a text message this lunchtime from a friend with a photo attached of a Podenco lying next to a bin area. The message said that the dog looked dazed and was very quiet.
When I got there to collect him, I found a badly injured dog who was nearly at death’s door. I sped him to the vet’s, thinking I would be too late, but we made it and the vet quickly assessed him and took an x-ray after making him more comfortable and pain-free. The x-ray showed that he has a shattered femur in his rear right leg and his pelvis/hip is also broken on that side, but it is a clean break. There were also signs of internal bleeding in his lungs and possibly his intestines.

Abandoned Valencia Podenca – now safe with Little Pod Association
This poor podenca was living in the streets of a village near Valencia, and a girl was feeding her. An appeal was made for someone with room to take her and Little Pod answered. The poor podenca was wandering the streets carrying this extra baggage – a hug tumour. She has been named Eva.
She was caught and taken to the vet where she was kept in under observation over the weekend. They will operate today (14/10), but there are many complications. They will do an ultrasound to check for puppies but they have to do an x-ray too. There are 2 more tumors and she will have to have her whole mammary canal removed which will take 3 operations. They can’t spay her at the same time so she will need a 4th operation.

Rescued Podencos in Murcia – podencos for adoption
To spend some time with Bev and Warren and all their foster podencos in Murcia – well, a few are permanent residents – was a fabulous experience. I offered to help with the dogs but they were organised, they had their routine, so I did as I was told! Walking on the campo with Bev and the young hounds, watching her training them on recall was fabulous.

Almeria building site – rescue of two abandoned podencos
These two podencos were abandoned on a building site in Almeria. Appeals went round and Bev Farmer of Podenco Friends said she would have room – as 4 dogs were leaving to go to their forever homes. But Almeria is a long drive from Alicante so she arranged with the young rescuer to meet up part way.
Bev says. ‘Early start tomorrow after making sure our four are safely on their way on the transport taking them to their forever homes. Then we will be driving down to Almeria to get these 2 Podencos left abandoned in a construction site.’
Bev and Warren got the two podencos safely back to home base. Here’s what Bev writes about their rescuer.
