Huesca, Zaragoa – can anyone help Chiqui
I’ve received this plea from a volunteer about a podenco x who is in Huesca perrera. He was attacked by another dog and has an injured leg. Susanna desperately wants to get him out, but the refuges and fosters are full. Can anyone help her? You can write to her using Google translate into Spanish – that’s how she wrote to me in English!

Podenco Andaluz puppy in Cordoba – help Haku

Little Podenco Andaluz Billy in Seville – waiting for his forever family
Do you remember sweet little Podenco Andaluz pup Billy, rescued from a galguero? He’s now 5 months old, healthy and happy in his foster home – he loves water and is ideal for a home with someone who likes sports, as he’s an active little chap. He’s the small type Andaluz, very smart and very funny; no problem living with other dogs and loves people. He really needs a forever family to love him for the rest of his life. Little podenco Noa rescued from a living hell – inhuman hunter again!
This is little Noa, a podenco of 1 year old. He was found with his mother and another pup in terrible conditions. His moma was in a state of extreme neglect, skeletal, bleeding, with an impressive pyometra, abused, among her excrement, lying there with babies and trampled by more hounds in a shed where this hunter was breeding and selling for hunting!!
The hunter wanted the baby sacrificed and said it was worthless, some babies died,,, no wonder .. and this poor little one has been struggling for his life, was in a state of extreme thinness, malnourished, unable to suck his mom, who had problems breathing and bleeding and mastitis…

I try hard to remind people that the podencos in the Canary Islands and Balearic Islands have a very tough time. Even worse, their main chance of a forever life outside of the shelters, where they are well looked after and never put down, is to be adopted on mainland Europe. 7 dogs abandoned in an olive grove in Jaen – urgent help needed
This appeal just in from a volunteer in Jaen, about 7 dogs abandoned in an olive grove, one of them a podenco. Here’s what she says, which I think illustrates the frustration and despair sometimes felt by the volunteers who feel they are battling against the odds so much of the time.

Date: Thu, 23 Aug 2012 15: 22:Yesterday came a man to tell me that in an olive grove on the outskirts of Bailen, were 7 abandoned dogs. when I arrived I found a beagle, bodeguero family including 2 pups and podenco, and a xbreed. There was also a black galgo but it was dead.
These dogs are in a very dangerous area, near a Gypsy neighborhood.
I need the help of protectoras and individuals to save the lives of these dogs.

Levriers du Sud save the Almeria perrera podenco pups
Do you remember these terrified babies in Almeria killing station? Two associations – one UK, one Holland, offered to take them, if someone local could rescue the babies and take them to foster or a shelter. They were finally rescued by Levriers du Sud and taken to a shelter, but sadly one of them died. The other two are now in foster care, looking for forever homes. Tthey’e been named Tanys and Gasby. Pig or Podenco? More barbarity from the Spanish hunters or genetic mutation?
The barbarity of some Spanish hunters defies belief at times. This beautiful young podenca is a victim of one type of inexplicable cruelty – cutting the nose to make the podenca look like a pig! I’ve come across this before, twice we have brought podencos out of Spain who have suffered this barbarity. Poor Joy had problems drinking, as water tended to go up his nostrils – what was left of them. And his trauma….with a lot of love and patience, especially on the part of his foster family, over many months he became a very affectionate little chap.
This is Bella, and she urgently needs a foster home, as she is currently in a locked garage.
