These little chaps were abandoned together, found dehydrated and with a skin infection, for which they have received veterinary treatment. The two young women who are caring for them need to find a foster/adoption home for them before 3rd September, as they are moving into rented accommodation where they can’t take the pups. The boys have been named Wilson and House ( don’t ask!) Please contact 685429447 (Dani) o el 615447713 (Bárbara), http://facebook.com/podencosconil. Please also only associations, as the puppies don’t yet have a pet passport.

Albacete perrera, Spain – over 200 dogs due to be pts now!
Last week I posted a comment from a volunteer in Spain, that many perreras kill ALL the dogs in August, because they want to close down completely for the holidays. Well, Albacete Perrera is going to do just that. Over 200 dogs are due to be pts any time now! Several of them are beautiful young podencos.
L’Europe des Levriers is the French association with whom I have travelled to Spain on many rescue missions. One of the refuges they work with is in Albacete. But they can’t cope with this massive programme of euthanasia.
If there any associations who can help with taking any of the podencos, please contact Alicia on edl.alicia@gmail.com

A Weak Moment – a Tale of Life with a Spanish hunter…
It’s a common sight on mainland Europe to see hunters in their vehicles, with a small box trailer towing their hunting dogs, squashed in, hardly room to breathe. In Spain, that country well known for sensible laws – I must be joking! – hunters merrily drive around transporting their dogs like that. Yet people licensed legally to transport dogs and cats can be targeted by the authorities. No doubt these authorities are hunters too. We all know they look after their own.

Helping a chained dog
There is a belief in Europe that guard dogs should be chained up. There is also a belief in Europe that any dog can be chained up, many of them without even shelter. I see it here in France – a border collie chained up in a farmyard particularly angers me. Podencos also suffer this maltreatment and Aaniferira, a Portuguese animal rescue association, have published a piece about dealing with the problem. You can read more about it here.
