Galgo Project EU – looking for information from shelters

Galgo Project EU is a Dutch organisation dedicated to supporting, rescuing, and giving a voice to galgos and podencos. They work closely with Spanish shelters, help dogs find safe homes, and raise awareness about the structural mistreatment these dogs still suffer.

With Galgo Project EU, we’re gathering data, testimonies, and concrete evidence to build a detailed dossier for the European Parliament. Our goal is clear:

To hold Spain accountable for not applying Article 13 of the Lisbon Treaty, and to push for equal, EU-wide protection of all dogs, including galgos and podencos, without exceptions.

We are not a large or well-known organisation like the Dutch Galgo Lobby you met years ago in Strasbourg, but we are committed, persistent, and determined to bring this issue to Brussels with as much unity as possible.

To strengthen our case, we have also officially filed a petition with the European Commission, so our concerns about Spain’s failure to apply Article 13 of the Lisbon Treaty are formally registered and can be brought forward within the EU institutions.

At Galgo Project EU, we’re looking for partners who really understand that our fight is more than rescuing dogs, it’s about changing laws and holding Spain accountable for ignoring Article 13. We want allies who are not afraid to speak out, support our dossier, and stand publicly with us in Brussels, Strasbourg, and online.

The right partners are people and organisations who care enough to take action: MEPs who are willing to support us, NGOs that go beyond rescue work, journalists who want to expose the truth, and Spanish groups who can provide real evidence.

Most of all, we want partners who mean it, people who stand with us because they see the injustice and refuse to stay silent. The kind of commitment we saw from the French MEP who walked with us in Strasbourg.

We do have a MEP on our facebook page, so we need more followers to show we will fight for these dogs

As part of the dossier we’re preparing for the European Parliament, we could really use some help gathering reliable figures on how many dogs arrive at the shelters each year.

If you can help with these numbers, please contact Galgo Project EU email.  galgoprojecteu@gmail.com
