Here is a story about an abandoned podenca – an all too common story in Spain.
I am a Canadian living in Valencia, Spain for the past 2 years. I have been overwhelmed by the stray dog crisis in this country. I have tried to help in different way and ended up adopting 4 large dogs that now are happy living with me
Last week, we found a Podengo Portuguese 2 blocks from my place in an empty area. She had given birth to 6 puppies and was always barking when anybody got close. We started visiting daily and taking food to her and the pups. We finally decided to go in and catch her, who was very protective of her puppies and with the help of professional rescuers we got them all.
They were in terrible condition, full of ticks and fleas. We took them to the vet, registered with a protection society and I have been fostering the puppies. The mom, who is pure Podengo Portuguese because she has ear tattoos, is with another person and was neutered.
In Spain is nearly impossible to find home for these puppies, all the rescue groups and animal societies are overcrowded. I think it could be easier to find homes out of the country.
The pups are 2 months old, 5 males, 1 female and I can cover the sterlization for all of them if needed. (Update, 2 pups now adopted, 4 to go)
People can contact me directly because I am available 14 hours a day, the association works limited hours. I am attaching again photos of the 4 pups left and some of when they were in that horrible place.

Oh look at them they are so beautiful. The little white one’s gorgeous face and blue eyes. I am so sorry that I can’t adopt and they are such beautiful puppies. Beryl, is there any information about making a donation towards their food etc?
Contact Johanna direct. Thanks for caring.
