Galgos 112 – saving lives in Spain

Galgos 112 Monk 250 2 2014I’ve Internet translated the two very sad stories of Monk and Orion, now safe in the care of Galgos 112. You can see more photos of them on Galgos 112 website. Donate to their expensive veterinary treatment here.

Monk

Is a small hound, picked up at the beginning of February in Marchena (Seville) in very poor condition and with a fracture in his rear leg.

Since he had lost a lot of blood and was malnourished and dehydrated, that same day he entered the Lepanto vet Hospital emergency room, but because of the delicate state of health it wasn’t possible operate it until he was stronger.

Monk had broken the tibia and the fibula due to a shot. Someone had shot him and was bleeding. It had a huge hematoma that occupied him all the belly and groin and leg rotten.

Once operated, the hardest work has fallen on Paqui, who has him in foster. Monk needs daily care, which supports without moving. The pieces of flesh which are in poor condition have to be removed and the wound has to be kept clean and alive.

As a good piece of flesh missing, plate have is air, but infection is already controlled, and dropped the rotten flesh had in several sites of the leg. On Friday they put growth factors to help the flesh to grow and cover plate.

Monk recovery is very slow but very good, so we are optomistic. He supports his leg and walking with her, which is a good sign, since the more support the sooner bone weld. He is a small dog with a great character, very good and quiet. He is already very lively and eats very well.

Dogs like Monk need special care to get forward and not lose the leg. Volunteers, with an admirable dedication, do this job but we need financial assistance to pay veterinarioss, buy bandages, cotton, antibiotics, especially nutritious food so they recover. All are small expenses but in great quantity, because it is not only Monk, Gentil, Nicole, Becky, Amber, Joyce, Centella, Elliot, hope and many more who need a very, very dedicated, very special attention and expenditures, combined, are very important.

Orion

Galgos 112 Orion 250 2 2014When Cristina was on her way to work, on the road of Fuente Álamo (Murcia), she saw the corpse of a small sized dog. Someone had hit him and the body had been there, while nobody had taken it away. Then she saw the ‘corpse’ was moving!

She immediately stopped the car, collected the small Orion, a hound puppy that had been hit many hours before and took him to the vet.

Until Monday will not get an idea of how he evolves. He is on morphine to alleviate the pain, very weak and tired. He will need surgery but for now it is unfeasible to operate because of his general condition. He has also a strange mark on the neck.

Orion will need much strength to go forward. He is only a puppy and has already experienced abuse in several of its aspects. Someone attacked him, another hit him and did not stop to help him and many others passed while he agonized lying in the road.

This is the society in which we live, a society that for most the life of a small Hound is not worth even the effort to stop the car, pick it up and take him to the vet. And this is dangerous, because if we get used to treat with indifference a dog that dying, if we turn into beings so hard that we are incapable of feeling the need to help someone who is dying in front of us, any day will be equal to the death of a being that it is closest genetically speaking. Orion is not just a dog, he is a living being that deserves to be respected, loved and protected. We are confident that he will find the strength to live and, finally, meet a life that he has deserved since the day he was born.
