Urgent appeals received from a French contact.
‘I am looking for help for a Podenco who is currently in the SPA in Carcassonne. They are a breed very close to my heart since we rescued one from Spain two years ago, who had been very badly beaten, and we have managed to bring back her joy to live and we adore her – she will never leave us till her life is done!
I have too many rescue dogs here at home (12) to be able to help Snoop, the Podenco in Carcassonne SPA, but I’m desperate for him to find a foster home because he’s ill and needs help to recover.
He is only 2 years old and has lost huge amounts of weight over the winter months (hardly surprising in the cold of the refuge) and was recently diagnosed as having Leishmania. He has been treated and now needs only the daily tablets of Allopurinol to help his kidneys recover.
I happen to know a bit about all this because we took on Setter with the disease who was predicted not to live by the vet at the SPA – 18 months down the line he is fighting fit, off all medication and leads a perfectly normal life. My vet is not surprised due the level of care he received with us and I know that Snoop can recover also with help if he has a chance. If he puts the weight back on, he will get better. But to do this he needs a home that will care for him, feed him properly and love him.
The SPA cannot keep him in the infirmary part of the refuge any longer now he has had the treatment and they are proposing putting him back into the chaos of the refuge, which is overflowing with 130 dogs! He will not survive, simple as that!
Can you help? He is a wonderful little chap, friendly with other dogs and children and very affectionate! He’s had the expensive treatment, now all he needs is the Allopurinol which is cheap as chips and I would be prepared to buy it for him!

I contacted Evelyn at Doglinks about taking Snoop. She let me know that an association called Levriers and Co. are taking him and he is due to be rehomed in La Rochelle.
So a happy end is in sight.
