This gorgeous little podenco puppy was thrown from a car onto the street. Luckily uninjured, she was rescued and is now in the safe hands of Bev Farmer, who is earning a well-deserved reputation for training podencos to prepare them for finding forever homes. Here’s the story of Jazzy so far.
‘Another post on Facebook, another Podenco dumped, this time thrown out of a car without any consideration what would happen to this puppy. At 7am Michelle heard a car racing off and a dog screaming. Her first thought was that a dog had been seriously hurt. She rushed out of her house to see a puppy on the street shaking in fear and covered in oil. Her front claws were ripped, a classic sign of having been dragged along by a car.
On a positive note she was in good condition, so she had been well cared for, and at least she was left in an area where she would be found and not somewhere remote in the campo. So we should be grateful for that.
As soon has we saw the post, we made the call and arranged to collect the puppy the next day with a view to fostering until we found a home for her. However after 24 hours she had worked her magic on us and found her spot on the sofa, so we named her Jazzy and it looks like we have added another to the pack at our hom.
We have never adopted a Podenco so young and she comes with a clean slate and what joy, no hunting instinct. We can take her for a walk with no lead and she never leaves our side.
It’s years since we have had a puppy and forgotten what fun they can be, we call her the puddle monster and are having to house train her and have a large supply of paper towels at hand, but this will be resolved soon.
A week on she is she seems no worse for her experience and is like any other normal puppy, just having fun and up to mischief. On Saturday we took her to a charity show run by APAH, a local rescue. Jazzy managed to turn on the cute factor, won the puppy class and Best In Show and came home with a beautiful trophy.
But most important, lots of people who had never before seen a Podenco or even heard about them, just adored her.
I can already see so much potential in her. Bright has a button, learns so quickly, she will be a good ambassador for the breed.’
Thanks, Bev, a lovely story with a happy ending for this little beauty. Good luck, Jazzy, you’ll for sure win plenty more prizes!
NB – Jazzy is not available for adoption, but contact Little Pod Foundation for other podencos which are
