  • Training a Podenco – superb Obedience and Agility Dogs

Denzil 2 250I can’t emphasise enough what fabulous hounds podencos are; marvellous companion dogs and, if you get a young one, easy to train and marvellous agility dogs (they are very popular in agility competitions in Germany especially). Bev Farmer fosters podencos and works hard on training them for forever homes. Here’s a great video which illustrates just how well podencos respond to training.

Bev was one of the many volunteers who went to Bullas on Operation Rehala at the beginning of 2012 and here is what she says.

Zorro 2 250 1 2013Many of you will have been following the diary of Zorro, an abandoned podenco taken in by Kate and eventually arriving safely at the home of Bev Farmer. He is now ready for adoption. Here’s what Bev says about this stunning hound.

Zorro was rescued last year. He was only a few months old. Kate discovered him being chased by three cars, trying to run him over. At the time she was living in a tent on a camp site and it was very difficult trying to keep him there but she persevered.

  • Podencoworld, Little Pod Foundation – saving a podenco family in Malaga

  • Little Pod Foundation – trying to save 40 more podencos

You will all be horrified and sickened by this news which has come in from the Little Pod Foundation in Murcia.

This is the original message. ‘Calling ALL Podenco Lovers!! We have just received emails about 40 Podencos living in terrible conditions in Benissa. The majority are females being used for breeding. In the video clips (haven’t a link to it yet) you can see their dirty drinking water is out of reach, there is no food and they are all on short chains. You can see two already have severe inuries to their back legs and Seprona have already been called in and will going back in a couple of days. This situation is Urgent and these dogs need help!!! Please contact us if you can help in any way, thank you’

Further investigation has revealed the appalling news that the owner of these dogs is an officer of the law, and refuses to give them up!

  • Podenco dead on his feet – safe with Little Pod Foundation – seeking forever?

Alfred 1 250This is Alfred he was found collapsed in the blazing sun in a remote area of the campo on Friday the 25th May. He was one lucky Podenco found by Manuela and her friends out cycling. He was so exhausted that he couldn’t even raise his head to drink some water. Thankfully they picked him up and took him to a local vet who then contacted Little Pod Foundation.

On Friday we were very concerned, not only was he covered in ticks and fleas, his pads were ripped to shreds and very swollen, but most worrying he was unable to stand up.

Amazingly 72 hours later we see a different dog, what a recovery Alfred has made. He is negative for Leishmania, filaria and ehrlichia, has his passport and is ready to travel.

  • Dumped on a Spanish street, podenco puppy now winning prizes

Jazzy pup 1 250 Bev 4 3012This gorgeous little podenco puppy was thrown from a car onto the street. Luckily uninjured, she was rescued and is now in the safe hands of Bev Farmer, who is earning a well-deserved reputation for training podencos to prepare them for finding forever homes. Here’s the story of Jazzy so far.

‘Another post on Facebook, another Podenco dumped, this time thrown out of a car without any consideration what would happen to this puppy. At 7am Michelle heard a car racing off and a dog screaming. Her first thought was that a dog had been seriously hurt. She rushed out of her house to see a puppy on the street shaking in fear and covered in oil. Her front claws were ripped, a classic sign of having been dragged along by a car.
