Bullas, Murcia – podencos rescued and now safe

Viv Wharton of Animal Welfare Support Murcia was one of the dozens of volunteers who travelled to Bullas, Murcia, on 9th March 2012, to help in the rescue of over 70 dogs remaining of the 120 in the compouund. This photo is of a few of them, relaxing in safety. Here’s what Viv says about the day.

‘Not an easy day at Bullas but nonetheless successful with the rescue of 8 Podencos. Not easy as we saw first hand how hard those decisions were; great work Little Pod Foundation and Podenco Friends and the volunteers; Little Pod Foundation who were responsible for undertaking the rescue of these pods were professional but passionate and I have great admiration for them.

The rescue part was heartbreaking but the task ahead to get these pods sorted is ongoing.

Also acknowledgment to the great organisation by Pro-setter, if it wasn’t for them, what would have become of these dogs? There were numerous people there today that deserve thanks for this rescue.

I think this day has had the most impact on me since I started this Facebook group (AWSM) and began the formation of the Association, ACTIN Spain. The difficult decisions taken today were not only impressive, but have made me realise what goes into the world of animal rescue, especially in Spain.

I also want to acknowledge all those out there who are raising funds in their own right, for the charities. What great people out there, you are marvellous. Such kindness to help like this and, if it weren’t for you people, then charities and organisations such as LPF and so many who are our friends and members would not be able to help all the dogs in need and able them to have the chance of a better life…thank you’

Bev Farmer would Like to thank Mary Lyle of Clinica Vet Del Novoeste who was on duty at Bullas today. She worked really hard all day checking all these dogs before releasing them to the associations never complained very professional and thanked everyone for taking the dogs. A brilliant ambassador for her clinic.

Jacquie Carter reports that the ‘owner’ turned up yesterday. Quite a few dogs and apparently 5 puppies had disappeared. No doubt ‘stock’ for his next venture after a stiff fine and a possible short prison term.

You’ll all be pleased to know that the all the dogs there on 9th March were saved, none were left behind. I’d like to mention all the associations who helped, but I only know a few of them, which include Pro-Galgo, Galgos 112, Le Bulletin des Levriers and dozens more
