Operation Rehala, Bullas, Murcia – help save the podencos

Los Perros de Bullas – Today (8th March 2012) it has been agreed with much teamwork from The Little Pod Foundation, SOS Animals UK, the Animal Welfare Support Murcia group and Podenco Friends to find temporary care and rescue for some of the misfortunate Podencos in the Bullas tragedy. If the rescue is successful, it is hoped that between 8 and 10 dogs will be saved, plus any puppies that are still there.

Due to the increase this year of abandoned animals in Spain, LPF have had to utilise all their resources to help with many more cases than usual. This year has been reported to be the worst, with hundreds of dogs that have literally been thrown away like unwanted rubbish, left en masse in unacceptable conditions, forgotten and left to just starve and die.

Incidents like the Bullas rescue are just one amongst many. Although many of the Bullas dogs have already been rescued by other charities and organizations there are still 70 dogs left – mostly Podencos. Some have already died and Friday 9th March 2012 is the final day that any can be taken from the site, so we must act.

LPF do fantastic work for a small charitable organization and they have been involved with the brilliant rescue of the 72 beagles from the research Laboratory in Barcelona. We really need to support them in their undertaking of this huge commitment. So we would like to ask for the support of AWSM members, friends, contacts and all animal lovers who care. Veterinary fees, health checks, vaccination, transport and foster care are all going to be necessary for the rescued dogs.

We have set up a donation fund for the Bullas dogs on www.awsm.es – please help and support this rescue; we will update you on the progress as it happens.
