4 November 2026 – From Bev Farmer of Podenco Friends.
“Save a Podenco in Gran Canaria” is an animal shelter run by volunteers. Since 2017, we have been dedicated to the rescue, protection, and raising awareness about Podencos. Because they are used for hunting, Podencos are excluded from current animal protection laws, which makes it very difficult to help them.
We rescue them, find them foster homes, and prepare them to be happy; to have a family that lasts them a lifetime. (more…)
Eleven years of loyalty… and now all Princesa wants is a warm bed and someone to love her.
This is Princesa, an 11-year-old Podenca who is searching for a loving retirement home. She is currently in the Valencia region of Spain.
At a time in her life when she deserved extra love and care, Princesa was signed over to Friends of Aprop after developing a health condition that is easily managed. Dogs are pack animals, they prefer company, whether it is another dog, cat or human. Many suffer from separation anxiety. We have always had more than one dog, although now we are down to just one and take her with us most places we go.
So how long should a dog reasonably be expected to be left alone.
The true face of desolation. Noelia a granny who lived a very hard and unhappy life. Her little legs are very sore. So little and cute.
Weighing only 9 kg. Only looks for affection since she could never felt anything similar to a caress..She only served to give birth year after year. She’s 10 years old but it seems like a lifetime of bitterness and pain has taken its toll on her. You just have to see her, poor thing.
A perrera, the last place for an elderly podenca abandoned by her hunter who she served faithfully for 10 years!
This gorgeous young podenco is Mateo, with Protectora Scooby Medina and hoping for a forever home. Contact Scooby direct if you have room in your home and heart for him.
This is my definitive guide to the plight of the podenco, giving you all the information about the different types of podenco, their history, diseases and a lot more. All sale proceeds are donated to appeals for help for podencos with rescue associations and shelter.
Podenco Mateo is with Protectora Scooby Medina and hoping for his forever home.
