  • Is there a right time to rehome your dog?

    Sometimes – due to changing circumstances – a dog needs to be rehomed. It could be the owner has died, moved into a care home, is too ill to look after the dog and the family can’t/don’t want to take on the dog, becomes homeless. It can heartbreaking for the owner and the dog is confused because it doesn’t understand what is happening.

  • Sick and Abandoned with missing eye, teeth, starving, pregnant – safe with Galgos Rescue Almeria

    Galgo’s Rescue Almeria on 4th December, we’ve named her Honey.

    This precious little girl came into our care yesterday.

    Honey is estimated to be 5 years old, the least we can say is that she will undoubtedly have had a very tough and difficult life until now.

    It’s actually a miracle that she’s still alive, God knows what she has been through and endured.

    This precious girl is supported by Helping Animals Almanzora.

    Honey’s story.

    She was kindly rescued from the road looking lost two weeks ago. Her rescuer took her to the Vet to check for a microchip which she doesn’t have. Poor girl was missing an eye and the socket was infected, she’s also missing her front top teeth. Honey didn’t look in the best condition and was presenting with signs of Leishmania. Obviously she also has had multiple litters previously.

  • Breaking News – animal shelter being closed down in Antas, Almeria

    Dear friends & supporters

    Some of you may be aware of a developing situation at another animal shelter within our region.

    Paws-Patas have been asked by both the Ayuntamiento de Antas and a District Judge to urgently take in over 100 animals into our care.

    We are therefore, in conjunction with the authorities and our trusted partners, undertaking an emergency operation to co-ordinate the safe transition of these animals into our care.

    This is a difficult and challenging situation for all concerned and our absolute priority, as always, is for the welfare of the animals.

    Every year in Spain the hunting season finishes on 1st February and now thousands march in cities throughout Spain to protest about the abuse and maltreatment of galgos and podencos. Thounsands of them thrown out in the campo, in perreras, on the street to get injured – because the bloody galgueros won’t keep a dog if it’s not hunting or breeding more galgos!

    Podencos on the Canary Islands have a very hard life and their only hope of a forever home is on mainland Europe. This lovely boy is Presley with Fuerteventura Dog Rescue.

    He’s a 11-month-old podenco, very friendly, playful, and affectionate.
    He gets along well with all dogs and people.

    He needs a forever home.
