  • Give Podencos in Valencia perrera an Xmas present – the gift of life

Valencia two more 250 11 12 2012Two more yound podencos on death row in Valencia. I simply fail – after 6 years – to understand the Spanish mindset of disposing of digs to a killing station if you don’t want them. These two are young….heartbreaking. I’d adopt them all, but I can’t afford it…oh to win the lottery!

This big guy (brown) is a male, very good and kind. He is about 3 years old and larger in size. He is so depressed he barely gets up, looks at you, just makes a ball on the floor, very sorry because it seems like he knows that it is difficult to get out. PLEASE HELP.

The white hound, Ibizan hound is beautiful. Very tall and beautiful. She holds her tail between her legs, but still smells your approaching hand. She is a young lady, like most hounds, we believe that she is less than one and a half (roughly) year. Beautiful, much more than it appears in photos.

  • Could you do dog rescue in Spain?

I have to admit to being somewhat upset. Not for myself, I hasten to add, but on behalf of my friends in Spain and elsewhere in Europe. I’m talking about the amazing animal rescue volunteers, rehomers, fosterers – everyone involved in helping abandoned and injured animals in Spain. Regular readers will know how often I praise these people – they work tirelessly against terrible odds, risking their health, their relationships, threats to themselves, their families, their homes. I’ve visited them in Spain over the past few years and seen what they do, every day, every week, every year – no letup. Read on

  • Podenca Andaluz, Murcia – slashed down the back!

Bev Pod back scars 250 11 2012You may remember Lucia, a Podenca Andaluz whose back had been sliced from shoulder to tail and left to heal on its own. this little podenco is similar in looks and size and not far from the same area where Lucia was abandoned. Bev Farmer reports.

‘I had a call from a golf course about a podenco that had been there for a couple of months.

We went to try and catch her, nearly caught her 3 times but it was not to be and after 8 hours and night time we called it a day. Tried again the following day but she had learnt that if she follows the golf carts, the players feed her, so she leads us a merry dance so no joy. Have left strict instruction they are not to feed her and we will try again tomorrow.

  • Prodeanse need help with Podenca bitch and 8 puppies

Esperanza Prodeanse 190 15 11 2012This is an urgent appeal to the good people, for people who are characterized by being the voice of these poor animals, the forgotten, the abused… This hound has suffered in her life and is now struggling to bring up 8 puppies. She was in a hovel, coping with the cold and heavy rains which have plagued Algeciras. She was found by a friend of Prodeanse who are going to take her into their care, to a kennels where Esperanza – for that is what she has been named – can care for her puppies, warm and dry.

If you can help, please contact Prodeanse (they speak English) for donations for food and vet fees for Esperanza and her babies. Every little will be greatly appreciated. Paypal this address and email adopcionesprodeanse@gmail.com

  • Sinking in Seville – save the hounds from the galgueros

Macu Kika 250 11 2012Immaculada – also known as Inma and Macu – of Seville does incredible work rescuing animals off the street and from a settlement of galgueros nearby. She deals with the vet, paying kennel fees, appeals to associations to help foster and rehome these hounds. Many of them I have featured on PP – including big hairy Podenco Campanero Chaplin, now happily rehomed in the UK with the help of SOS Animals. She’s currently got 9 podencos and 1 galgo, to name just 10!

Macu has sent this appeal. ‘It is very bad here, I have many animals that depend on me and to make matters worse I have no computer, I thought it was the hotmail account, and changed it to g.mail and even so, it is the computer…so I’m at my brother’s house using his computer, but I cannot connect and answer as fast as before.

Here I send you a link of a blog, so you can see all the animals that I have in my charge.

  • Arrecife, Lanzarote – SARA Protectora Podenco Publicity Day!

SARA Lanzarote even 190t 24 11 2012I’m catching up on posts, as have been away on holiday for a week with my son and grandsons. Here’s a marvellous event which is much needed in the Canary Islands where the podencos have a very hard life, and local people need to know what marvellous pets they can make.

SARA Lanzarote are organising an event on 24th November at Arrecife, and hope that it’s not too late for podenco associations elsewhere and on mainland Spain to organise something at the same time. Here’s the report from SARA Lanzarote.
