Lina Orta is one of a group of volunteers who help the dogs that the town council worker takes to Hellin perrera to be killed. There are two podencos in now, waiting to be sacrificed. Their names are Chispo and Rubius.

Desperately needs saving – barely able to stand up, it is so starved. Very young. In Valencia perrera. Please help, usual rules apply. This is a female podenca living on the streets of Loja, Granada. She had a companion, a labrador, but someone has taken him and he is now in kennels. But the podenco is so afraid that she has not been caught. Next weekend she is going to be darted but after that there is nowhere for her to go. This poor little soul was found in a rubbish bin. A man heard a groan, looked and there was this little podenco puppy – more dead than alive. Luckily he rushed it to a vet who immediately put it on CPR and a drip, surrounded it with plastic bottles filled with warm water…last report is that it is still alive.

Last week Scooby took in 40 galgos from Fundacion Benjamin Mehnert in Seville. This week they are taking in 140 – yes, 140 – from all over Spain! Here’s a message from Scooby’s President, Fermìn Pérez Martìn:

Do you remember the very pregnant podenca? Thanks to donations, Anke and Dominique were able to save her and she is now in foster and sponsored by a French association AIRE. She had 9 puppies who are all doing well and are also in foster. It is believed they are pure podenco.
Merlin & Faith came from Valencia Perrera, where Anke and her team are now helping. This was before they became involved and it was a nighmare trying to get the podencos out. Here’s their story from a volunteer.
It seems to be a reccurring theme for Little Pod Association, this is the second family rescued by them recently and both have since had large litters of puppies. Yet again more Podencos in a Perrera, the clock ticking down before they would be euthanaized.
These 3 females, 2 of which are podencos, arrived that way in the perrera to be dumped by owner. All affectionate, all CESE which means they are fast track to killing, the perrera does not have to hold them for 20 days because the owner has signed them over to be killed.
A third podenca dumped there at the same time, look at the injury to her, plus her teats – she’s obviously had lots of babies…apparently the injury has been treated. But then the bastard took her to be murdered!

Further to the appeal from Animales Rioja for donations to pay for kennel fees now they have had to move their 70 dogs into kennels, below are the lovely podencos which they rescued from the perrera. Pilar says ‘they were rescued by our organization many months ago, but we have not enough money to feed them or pay vet fees because we have no association helping us – our only income is adoption money. That’s why we need the dogs to find families and for Podencos it is so difficult!
These two above are Pele and Mele, brothers, Podenco Maneto – which is a small type, dachshund size and shape. Lugo (1st below) is also a Podenco Maneto. Order below is Lugo, Eyes, Tita, Paula, Risi and Toby – all young dogs with a long life ahead of them.
