  • Chocolate podenca Angela saved!

Bev Angela 1 250 30 3 2013Update from Bev Farmer, who saved Angela from being killed last week.

Angela had a good first night her blood tests confirm she is positive for ehrlichria but negative for Leishmania, filaria and babesia. She has a severe ear infection, and this has caused irreparable damage to one of her ears. Angela weighs 13 kilos and should be about 20 kilos the photos don’t really reflect how thin she is. She has longer hair but when I bathed her last night I could feel every individual rib and vertebra in her back.

  • Valencia perrera podencos due to be killed before Easter – no holiday for them!!

Valencia podencachocolatemarch2013My heart is breaking, yet again. Easter looms. The Spaniards working in the killing stations want to go on holiday, so there will be mass killings on Thursday! Included in those are podencos in Valencia perrera. Dominique tells me the news.

‘There is a total of 4 podencos, 1 male, 3 females in the Valencia pound. They are planning a killing again of half the dogs, so the volunteers say, probably Thursday because of Easter Friday being a holiday.

Chocolate Podenca, not very large in size, skeletal. According to her teeth she is less than 5 years old. She is very affectionate, submissive, very pretty but very thin, hazel eyes, she is very special and noble, and very smart. Please help.

  • Albalat Animal, Ribera, Valencia – injured podenco – please help

Albalat Animals pod 250 3 2013This podenco has been named Leo by Albalat Animal Ribera in Valencia province. It took them a month to catch him. As you can see, he has a bad wound to his near hind leg. He is not chipped. He has been examined by a vet who will do tests for a diagnosis as to what work can be done to save his leg, rather than amputate. Albalat Animal are asking for a foster home for him as he needs a lot of attention, care and rest and is on 12-hourly medication.

Albalat Animal have no shelter, so they desperately need somewhere for this boy to go, and financial help to cover veterinary expenses. So far they have paid out €109.12 and that is just the beginning. Tomorrow we return to do x-rays, in principle 2 to 35.32 euros each. Contact email and Paypal a/c albalatanimal@gmail.com

  • Two blind podencos in Seville – please donate to their operations

Macu Atila-4 250I recently reported about two podencos in Seville which Macu had rescued from Palmete, a settlement of galgueros and gitanos from where she saves many hounds. Both the podencos had eye problems. The younger one has been named Atila, just two years old, in good health apart from not being able to see. His problem is that there are waterfalls and tumours in each eye, and if enough money can be raised, the opthamologist can restore Atila’s sight 100%. At the moment, the poor dog spends a lot of time bumping into things or just not moving about atall. The amount needed – 1,600 euros to include the operation and follow-up tests. If Atila does not have the operation, he will be blind for life.

  • Seville podencos need help to save their sight

Macu pod 1 250 3 2013An appeal from Macu in Seville, for two podencos with eye problems, rescued from the gypsy settlement. She would dearly like to make a denuncia against these people but dare not for fear of reprisals. Here’s what she says.

‘These two podencos have sight problems. One is male aged 3 years weighing 11 kilos and one female.

The male is virtually blind and the vet has recommened he be taken to an ophthalmologist, as he believes the sight could possibly be restored. His neck hurts as he extends it to adapt to see.
