  • Podencos on death row in Mairena perrera, Sevilla

    Mairena perrera 1 250Many years ago I wrote about the horrendous conditions for the dogs in Mairena perrera, near Seville. For a while the volunteers were refused access because of the photos which were published. volunteers now have access to the dogs again.

    Maria says ‘There are currently 12 podencos at Mairena’s dog pound. This is one of the worst dog pounds in Spain. The dogs are not fed properly, they are sick and nobody cares, the dogs are not euthanasied properly (they don’t use the normal “stuff” and the dog takes forever to die), “galgueros” (hunters) are VIP visitors and can adopt all the dogs they want… Please, help them.’

  • Podenco Andaluz Solo – seeking his forever home and family

    Bev Solo 1 250 7 2013Introducing handsome podenco Solo, who is with Bev Farmer. He’s desperate for a family and a loving home to call his own for the rest of his life. Can you find a place for him? Bev Farmer describes his character.

    ‘This is Solo he has been at Pepis Refuge since he first wandered into their gates as a puppy back in 2008.

    For some reason no one has shown any interest in him, it’s such a shame that he has not had a family of his own for 5 years.

    To help out Solo has come to us and he is a super Podenco very friendly loves to play with the other dogs very quick to learn and wants to please. He is a really affectionate dog and not a loner and at night time he sits on Warre’sn lap while Warren’s drinking a beer or two.

    I think he will be brilliant at agility and we will start with some training with him. He has his passport up to date vaccinations, blood tested and negative and is castrated. Thank you to Beryl who sponsored Solo and organised for him to travel to us.

    SOS RESCUE ANIMALS SEVILLA was initiated by a group of people who met through social networks.

  • Podencos in Murcia waiting for forever homes

We arranged for them to go to Bev Farmer in Murcia and here is a fabulous photo of them with her husband Warren. That’s the two boys, the tinies each side of the other podencos.   • Valencia dog pound – injured podenca needs urgent vet treatment

    Podenca Martina has been hurt in a car accident involving the van she was transported in. She is in Valencia dog pound. The dog catcher was killed in the accident! She needs to get out fast to be treated by a vet and the volunteers need help. She is 2 years old.
