20 years ago Jane and Alan Brian moved to Spain to open a caravan park. Instead they found a hung galgo in the olive groves around them and started their journey to save and rehome hundreds of dogs. Alan write amusing and poignant verse and I have now collected these into a book, interspersed with stories of some Pepis dogs who found forever homes. Please buy a copy, all proceeds from the sale will go to the Pepis dogs, including podencos. It’s Print on Demand, so will only be printed when you pay for it, allow 2 weeks. An ideal present for your dog-loving friends.

Last Hope Dog Rescue – podencos waiting for forever homes
These gorgeous podencos are with Last Hope Dog Rescue. Please, let’s find forever homes for them. Contact Last Hope Dog Rescue if you can help.
Irene Allen describes their characters.
First up is Izzy, a 13 week old Podenco Maneto and will be small when fully grown, about the size of a Jack Russell. She s fully vaccinated and passported and is adorable and full of fun .
Madison (brown & white) is 5 months old and was saved form the hands of a vet who had her tied to a wall for ten days waiting to put her to sleep! She is an adorable Podenco mix and is very very loving and playful. She sleeps on the sofa in the living room at night and is a very chilled wee girl. She is passported and fully vaccinated

Tierra Blanca refuge, Tenerife – kennels urgently needed for winter
Centro de Protección Animal Tierra Blanca on Tenerife has 260 rescued podencos all desperately needing forever homes. With Winter coming these Kennels would provide shelter for so many of them. The cost for the metal about 130.00 Euros, labour voluntary, good idea and indestructable.
If you can help towards providing more of these kennels 260 podencos – that’s not counting all the other dogs! – please paypal to this address.
And if you can offer a forever home to a podenco, even better. The dogs are microchipped and vaccinated, no adoption fee – all they ask is the cost of the flight out of Tenerife.

Podenco Friends, Alicante – who cut the hole in the fence?!!
Regular readers will know of the incredible work done by Bev Farmer and Warren Beards of Podenco Friends, in Alicante. I have the pleasure of visiting them in September 2013, sharing their lives with the rescued podencos and seeing the devotion and incredible work they do for these maltreated yet fantastic hounds.
They live in a finca inland in the middle of the campo with very few neighbours – those there are live in the distance! They have a good relationship with the local galgueros, many of whom cannot believe the cruelty others inflict on these fabulous hounds. So it is with a heavy heart that I read the following report by Bev – luckily this time with a happy ending.

Podencos for adoption
There are dozens of podencos spending months and longer in refuges, shelters and foster homes. Please remember them if you would like to offer one a forever home. Here’s a list of associations to contact, by country, if you can help.
And for every podenco homed from a refuge, the association can rescue one from a perrera. It’s heartbreaking how many podencos are dumped in perreras by the hunters – especially on CESE which means ‘fast track to killing’! And if a perrera is full, podencos are the first dogs to be killed to make room for incomers!

Grace and Dolly – Podencas in Murcia waiting for forever homes
I had the pleasure of visiting Sherlie Bradley and all her gorgeous foster dogs in Tallante, Murcia, Spain- what a happy bunch. At the moment she has two lovely podencos desperately wanting their forever homes. Here’s their details.
Meet Grace, she was found by my Spanish neighbour while he was out hunting and I really thought he was going to keep her for hunting. Instead he put her on a chain but she kept getting tangled round a tree and table. I went round 4 times to untangle her, (he doesn’t live there). Finally I told him something needed to be done as she was tangling in the tree etc and he said did I want her, didn’t need asking twice…
