Hard life for Podenco and Galgos in the olive groves of Seville

Very busy chez Brennan at the moment, preparing for my 5th Fun Dog Show on 4th September, raising much needed funds for Pepis Dog Refuge. This is the downside of what Jane and Alan live with on their doorstep. This is why they opened the refuge, to save the dogs the hunters abuse in this way. And while all this is going on, the dogs in the refuge are stressed out,and why we need to keep helping them help the hounds.

Jane Brian writes.

28/8 2016 This morning we witnessed something we wished we had not. We have seen a Podenco in the vets with its eye shot out, that was horrible enough, but what we saw today will stay with us for ever.

BANG BANG BANG, they are out rabbit hunting again, only this time we could clearly see the hunter and his three dogs, BANG BANG, the Podenco brought the shot rabbit back to his master then….BANG….only this time the Podenco was screaming…rolling down the hill…scresming, helpless to do anything. We were screaming at the hunter, that terrible feeling of helplessness engulfing us, the disbelief of what we were watching take place, all the time hearing the poor dog screaming.

The hunter had accidently shot his own dog, or was it manic stupidity, we will never know…the hunter raced down the very high hill to his dog, he knew we were watching from the other side of the hill. He dragged the Podenco by its leg behind a bush where we heard another BANG, then silence.

We both went back inside in total shock of what we had been witness to, emotions running high. Being here taking care of these dogs, loving them, worrying over them, thinking…hoping we are making a difference has been tested to the max this morning.’

Please support Jane and Alan in their work, whether it is donating, sponsoring a dog, volunteering at a refuge. How about having a stand at car boot sales, coffee mornings…every little helps take care of the dozens of dogs at Pepis, rescued from a life of hell with the hunters and others.

THANK you to them who are saving dogs used to hunt and to be killed. This is so sad. It is so hard to live here.

A horrible incident even to read about. It’s hard to imagine the cruelty Jane and Alan – and all the wonderful people desperate to help the dogs in Spain – witness on a regular basis. Hunting, as demonstrated, is not just a murderous “sport” for the wildlife but also for the poor dogs involved….So very tragic.

So very sorry Jane and Alan having to witness this horror. What an absolute bastard this hunter is. I will make a donation. Wish it could be more.
