I met some of the lovely Axarquia volunteers at the PAES conference last October. Here is an appeal for a special podenco in their care. Dawn McClelland writes.
Is there anyone out there that can help us to find some contacts to rehome an adorable blind Podenco called Pancho – this lad is blind from birth, managed on the streets for a while and then came into our care. Pancho does not let his disability limit him at all – after 10 minutes he can navigate a new place perfectly. He is utterly gorgeous, loving and a credit to his breed – can anyone help please? Click on the AAR link below to see him.
THis is Pancho’s story – AAR NEED YOUR HELP to find that perfect home for him

I’m Pancho (AAR 1207). I’m two years old, medium-sized and was found wandering the streets. I’ve been castrated, I’m up to date with all my vaccinations, microchipped and have my passport. I’ve been blind from birth but that hasn’t stopped me! I can map out my surroundings very quickly and, if you didn’t know I was blind, you probably wouldn’t be able to tell. I can run up and down stairs like any other dog and easily find my toys; remembering exactly where I left them.
If you want to see me in action just ask to see the videos of me playing with my friend, Kitty. People often ask if we’re related because we look so alike, but we’re not. We’re just really good friends. In fact, I’m very good at making friends.
I currently live with 3 other dogs and my foster parents, who have done an excellent job training me. I love walks in the park where I play with other dogs. I also get on well with children and cats. I love cuddles, I’m outgoing, confident and very playful. I would really love to be in a home with at least one other dog.
Please contact Axarquia Animal Rescue about Pancho.

Ah lovely boy, he is being promoted on the blind dog rescue site too, wonderful rescue helping blind dogs, partially sighted and some fully sighted dogs get homes. I have read Pancho’s profile before and he sounds wonderful, he so deserves his forever home.
Pancho is beautiful. Any updates?
I am currently over from Spain and in the UK, Hastings with my 3 Podencos and almost everyone we pass in the street shows an interest in them. They are causing a bit if a stir! I am always trying to raise the profile of these beautiful animals and proud to do so. As all Pod owners know they are very special.
Good luck to all.
Vince.
