Podenco Puppy in terrible state – now safe and recovering

Ragamuffin podenco puppy mange 250 1 6 2016Here’s the story of this poor podenco puppy, told by Harriet Adie.

Hello dear people.

Please let me introduce you all to Ragga Muffin. He is only 4 months old. Found in this state on 1st June 2016.

He has no hair but I can see it would have been a lovely tan colour with white patches.

His skin is hot, red and caked in scabs, blood and dry flakes. Not to mention ticks and fleas.

His fore feet and legs are terribly swollen and very sore for him to walk on, with his nail beds bleeding and seeping in places.

Ragamuffin podenco body 250He has not once growled, grimaced or shown anything but sweetness throughout today which must have been yet another frightening ordeal for him in his short but traumatic life.

He is a hunting dog, a podenco. A nothing dog to many people here.

He is not yet even 4 months old. He is a puppy.

What a life he has had so far.

now thanks to Kerrie Edwards and Sara Miguez Turrillo, he starts his road to recovery, I hope.

He is not unlucky now. He is safe and cared for and already I love him for his sweet soul, his gentleness and his beautiful eyes. He has his first night with a soft bed and a cotton sheet to soothe his skin. He has a belly full of good food too.

Update 3/6/2016 – RaggaMuffin enjoying a little rub with coconut oil, apologies for the spillage and the commentary! He is having some with his food too. He is more perky today and was pleased to see me each time I visited him, still unwilling to venture into his own patio when I am not there tho…his nail beds have stopped seeping thanks to the antibiotics and his legs and paws less swollen due to the antiinflammatory. His skin is still driving him mad and is just scab, crusty blood and red raw patches … It will get better tho.

Video of Raggamuffin today having his body treated.

I read about this poor boy on Spanish stray dogs website, they are raising money for him. Another great charity helping the dogs in a municipal pound in Spain, I make a monthly donation. Some lovely podencos on there. Poor Polo and Clip podencos boys, always overlooked.
