And another poor podenco suffering from the neglect and abuse of the bastard hunters – or in this case also a ‘rescuer’. Here’s her story. I’m checking with the association CPA who have her, that it is Olite in Navarra, northern Spain, as I am not aware it is an area where hunters use podencos. (google translation)
‘Hello. This week we picked up this podenquita of the town of Olite. In spite of living on a daily basis with the neglect and on many occasions with the mistreatment, few times we have dog arrive in this state. It was about to die of starvation. Her condition is delicate, doesn’t eat because it is so weak that it is not capable of doing so. Her temperature was extremely low and even though she kept drinking, it’s so dehydrated that it is not enough.
After a few hours with serum, her condition has improved a lot, and although she remains serious because it still hasn’t eaten, miraculously the análiticas show no more than a renal failure that can be reversed and it is probably the result of dehydration. The good and the bad news is that Bat as we have called her, was dying of hunger.
She has no microchip and was found in the bush. We don’t usually publicly judge any action, because it is not our job but in this case, we are so outraged by the situation that we have to tell the tale. The person who found her kept her for a few days to try and help her so we think she was in a bit better state than this. Not to eat and begin to deteriorate further, instead of paying the veterinary care that she needed, called us to deliver it to the centre.
It’s not the first time that people in principle of good will collect dogs off the street and being overwhelmed by the situation, whether by nature or physical status of the dog, take their time to deliver the dog to us, sometimes that time is one year . We understand, of course, that people who find a dog in the street and pick it up can’t keep it, but to keep the dog for a year or months and then deliver it, without having laid even microchip, much less vaccines, it is a situation that we consider to be a Abandonment, too.
As we say, we’re not going to judge in a general way, nor do we want to create controversy on this, but this case is extreme, and while the person who picked her up is not responsible for the first time, we believe that he has contributed to the deterioration of the situation of the dog.
Due to the legal situation (has no microchip) we cannot make any complaints, but we want to voice our outrage and rejection of this type of situation and above all, the powerlessness we feel unable to do anything else to try to save her life and find her the decent home she deserves. She’s just a very young podenca, not even a year old!
– spreading her story and share to find her him a home
– support in the areas of education and awareness of responsible ownership that starts to comply with the act of getting all dogs microchipped and vaccinated. If this dog had a chip, we could do something more, but the kennel is full of dogs without microchip so that you can’t condemn by abandonment and / or mistreatment to anyone.
– denouncing any situation of abuse and neglect that you may know, regardless of whether it handles on the part of the authorities or not.
