Update on Frank (as in frankfurters)/Hoppalong Doggity, Podihopper!
‘Thank you for the donation, very kind of you – on my behalf and on behalf of Hopalong Doggerty. He loathes the cheap dry dogfood – he’s very fussy, considering he was starving and on the streets – so I give him brown rice, boiled with carrots and some broth from my own vegetables till it’s soggy and with a whole tin of sardines added once it’s cooled. I don’t blame him about the dogfood – it’s rubbish. He no longer has diarrhoea. Trouble is, a tin of sardines costs 70 centimos. I got him a worm tablet yesterday and will give it to him later – forgot this morning.
The worrying thing – worrying in a way, but good in another – is that he’s started to put weight on his bad leg; he uses it like a peg-leg and you can hear it clicking, like Blind Pew in Treasure Island except that of course Pew was wicked and Doggerty’s a sweetheart. Yesterday, he insisted on going for a walk and we walked for at least 20 minutes; it was after about ten minutes that he started using the peg-leg, clickety-hop, clickety-hop. Then I sat down on the road in the sun with my back against the warm wall (‘cos there’s no sunshine in my patio in winter). He gave a happy sigh and lay down with his head on my knee. He’ll be a lovely pet dog – wish I could keep him. He comes when I call, doesn’t touch things if I say nicely, “No, not there, Doggie,” is eager to please and very kind and gentle. He doesn’t react at all to Moppi the cat, just ignores him completely, which really annoys Mop! I haven’t managed to get any good photos of his face and the camera battery ran out, but I’ll try later and am sending pix of him with his hoppity leg and eating his sardines.’ An association has come forward who may be able to help with regard to his leg and operation etc, so I have put them both in contact. Fingers crossed. If/when he does move on, I can imagine lots of heartache with his rescuer. It’s not the first podenco she has rescued who I have helped her with.
It’s good that he’s comfortable enough to use the leg and want to go out for a walk, but I worry that he might displace the bones slightly. I expect they’re starting to knit or will very soon, so it’ll be too late to operate, but if he’s O.K. like that, it doesn’t matter.

Ah bless hoppalong doggity, good boy, you deserve a chance and a forever home with lots of love and care. Clearly this lovely boy has suffered with hunger and pain, hope this is a turnaround for him. Thank you you to his rescuer for saving him.
Thank you for all donations so far – I haven’t got the email address of you KSC – have sent all the money on. He now needs his bandages replacing, so that’s the next on the list, besides food. Still making contact with the association – Internet communications spasmodic…will keep you posted. Wendy, if you read this, the rescuer is trying to contact you by email and phone…if his leg is to be operated on, it needs to be soon. The rescuer says thank you thank you to everyone who has donated.
I do hope his operation happens soon for this poor boy bless him keep posting updates beryl
I made a mistake! I still have €44,30 left from your donations. People have donated 98€, I’ve spent 25.70 on food and 28 on the first vet and bandages.
Oh dear, once he’s healed I’ll still have to find an adopter! Oh dear, oh dear. I swore never to take in another animal.. ..but I couldn’t just have left him.
