Portuguese Podengo – rescued and needing forever homes

Portugal Zara 3 250(Photo right of Zara – a Portuguese Podengo puppy) It’s a nightmare for podencos, dozens on death row in the perreras. Dozens more saved and needing forever homes. What is overlooked is that there are podengos in Portugal – yes, Portuguese Podengos (not a typing error!). They too suffer cruelty. Here are five which have been rescued and need forever homes. Jackie writes about them.

‘I wanted to ask if you could help us at all with a situation of a very good friend of mine who lives here in the north of Portugal and who recently rescued 5 podengos. Just to show you who they are:

TWO small podengos – brothers rescued from an absolutely miserable situation where they were kept in a wooden box and fed only about 3 times a week! They were stolen from the box by my friend one night!! TANGO and BOLERO are their names and they are small in build and height. Ages 1 1/2 yrs old more or less.

Tango – White and Brown – weighing 8 kgs
Bolero – Brown and White weighing 8 kgs

They have been in recovery since their rescue as they were very thin. They will be castrated shortly. Both are a little nervous around people due to their ill treatment but they are so cute as you can see in the photos below – 3 pix.

DOLLY – Larger podengo MALE – beige colour, weighs around 10 kg or more, very sweet, (to be castrated) – round 1 1/2 yrs old. 2 photos below.

NINO – Medium sized MALE weighing around 9 kgs, very sweet nature, castrated. Colour is unusual as he is copper coloured – not seen a lot in Portugal. 2 photos below.

ZARA – small podenga FEMALE around 7 months old, brown beige colour, has been spayed already, weighs 7 kgs, very sweet.’ Last photo.

Please help find forever homes for these sweet podengos. Contact Jackie if you can help.

They’re absolutely stunning, little and beautiful. I wish that more people knew about these lovely dogs. As soon as I am able to adopt a pod I will.
