Podenco Andaluz Vida – beating the bastard who tried to kill her!

Vide after operationj 200 23 10 2012Update on Vida after the operation – incredible what these hounds – and the galgos – survive! Foster home urgently needed to continue with medical care and rehabilitation. It’s at times like this I wish I had a small house in Spain to use for this purpose!

The latest news is that Vida is eating on her own! Her neck is very swollen, obviously, and she is on pain killers and anti-inflammatory medications. Looking good!

Curses on the bastard that did this to the dog, to his family, may he rot slowly and suffer. For be sure, it will be a HE!

Dear Beryl,As much as i love reading galgo news it does fill with with dread as to what cruelty man can do it never ends a cycle of torture and disregard for all living things.Bless Vida may she make a full recovery and come to know love and peace and may we have pity for the ones who did such a terribel thing God only knows why.

Often I sit at my computer and shed tears for the poor innocents who suffer so horrendously at the hands of man. The stories which come in wrench my heartstrings, especially as I am not in Spain and able to physically help. All I can do is publicise and pray that all you kind people will support the volunteers who pick up the pieces of such blatant cruelty. How the volunteers live with it daily is beyond my comprehension. Thank heavens they do. Otherwise the animals would suffer more. Thank you for caring.

poor vida hope she well soon and gets sorted with foster home why dont you sell up in france beryl and move to spain i stuck here the only way i could make a big difference is if i won the lottery i would set my own rescue and bring as many as i could over

I’ll tell you why, Jen. I’d be making so many denuncias and creating so much havoc that I would be put in jail as a demented woman. I don’t speak Spanish and that’s my problem. I rely on the volunteers – and they live where the problems are – and so I have to just be quiet and photo and record – and I really could attack some of the men I have met! Which is why I SO admire the volunteers who live with all this cruelty every day.

we would all love to have Beryl liveing here in spain
think we would be bailing her out of prison every day
she does an important job with this facebook page for the pod and galgos
Plus beryl is a very good link for the galgo/pod rescues here

Thanks Toni, for those kind words.Whilst I’m not doing the physical work of looking after the dogs, I seem to spend hours every day posting stories and photos, and answering emails from readers…my paid writing work is no more…the dogs have taken over totally! And yes, I’m afraid I wouldn’t be able to keep quiet. It was bad enough on my September trip having to shut up about starving horses, because the dogs needed getting out first. I’m hoping to come and see you in Murcia next year – just got to save the pennies! Thanks again for your kind words.

My current sign-in is Skit Reptile Sanctuary located in Washington USA. I am a supporter of ACTIN and communicate actively with groups both in the USA and Europe (especially Spain). This article is heart-breaking- and as a former animal cop and now advocate/ and researcher/writer re: animal cruelty I keep well attuned to animal welfare internationally. Please, readers, don’t give up. The authorities and “politicos” have only have so much power if we all stand together. I’ve been there: death threats, shot at, beaten as part of my job. The latter means little when a defenseless child or animal is at stake. Please stand together. My email is lindamerz-perez@comcast.net. I research and am the author of books and articles re: animal cruelty. Don’t give up! Remember what Hannah Arendt said about the Holocaust: the worst atrocities happen because we do little. She called it the “banality of evil”. I offer my respect and gratitude to all of you who do so much to speak for the voiceless.

I have had some difficulty responding to this post. My current email address professionally is skitreptilesanctuary@comcast.net and my personal email is lindamerz-perez@comcast.net. My response is that all of us must stand together. I have served as an animal cop and researcher/writer re: animal cruelty for many years. I commend you all with respect to your compassion and courage. During my years in the field (yes! here in the USA) I have been beaten, shot at, and threatened. If we all stand together, the power of the politicos and abusers diminish. Let your hearts lead the way. We live in a global world- and together we can make a difference for those who have no power or voice of their own- be they children or animals.

Thank you for commenting and for the information in your comments. The podencos need all the help they can get – the galgos are better known, but the podencos should not be overlooked either. I look forward to your input. Thank you for caring about the animals, in whatever shape they come.
