The Animal Medical Care Foundation supports worldwide more than 80 animal shelthers in over 30 countries with medical and other care products. It was founded by Betty Heideman. This is the story.
Betty Heideman was born in Utrecht in 1962, into a home already inhabited by dogs and cats. This love of animals continued and Betty became a volunteer as a dog walker in the Hilversum shelter, as well as a foster home for birds. Hamsters, turtles, gerbils, mice and rats also moved in! After marriage, Quincy, a 7 yr old crossbreed from the Breda shelter became the first in a long line of adopted dogs.
Betty also started one of the first pet sitting services and began to specialize in helping animals with emotional and behavioural problems. She attended a healing course in England and gave workshops on treating animals with Bach Flower Remedies. In 1999 Djara, a rescued galga from Spain, encouraged Betty to start Greyhound Rescue Holland in 2000 and during the next 7 years, many galgos, podencos and greyhounds found new homes through the association, and many donations of goods and medical products were sent to shelters in Spain.
After Quincy and Djara, Betty helped many traumatized or disabled dogs, old, sick, handicapped, all were welcome. In 2005 she moved to France, started to write and in 2008 published her first book 'Four Foreing Feet', followed by a second book 'Asylum Seekers'. In 2009 she started the Animal Medical Care Foundation so she could help more animals and the foundation has now helped over 80 shelters and sent almost 200 parcels of medical care products all over the world.
In 2010 Betty started the Dj-Imba Foundation, a refuge for handicapped, old and sick dogs. Currently there are 14 dogs living in the home, most of which are more than 12 years old, and also 4 cats, receiving care and comfort at a time when many people would abandon them. Betty also gives workshops 'Soft Touch' and has designed a collection of Pet Sympathy cards. She is also the inventor of the MultiLeash and the 'Save my Pet' sticker.
