  • Lenticular Sclerosis in dogs

    Bo face 1 400
A couple of years ago we adopted an older Spanish podenco who was blind. His eyes are cloudy blue, but we believe he can see shadows. He amazes us with how he finds his way around life, using his ears and nose. e’s even learned to walk up the ramp into the back of the car. Our suspicion is that his blindness is the result of an eye infection untreated – we know how bad the Spanish hunters are at looking after their dogs, especially if it involves vet fees.

This weblnk takes you to an interesting article about blindness in dogs.

And I would say to any readers – if your dog starts losing its sight, it is nothing to be concerned about, the dog will cope amazingly well. And use a Blind Dog harness, it’s a great conversation starter and a good way to tell people about galgos!

  • Poem of a dog

    Poem
I’m the one who’s always waiting for you.

Your car has a special sound that I have imprinted on my senses, I can recognize it in a thousand.

Your steps have a magic bell.

Your voice is music to my ears.

If I see your joy, it makes me happy!.

    Your scent is the best.

    Your presence moves my senses.

Your waking up wakes me up

I contemplate you sleeping and for me you are my God, I am happy watching your sleep.

Your look is a ray of light.

Your hands upon me, hold the lightness of peace and the sublime display of infinite love.

When you leave, I feel a huge void in my heart.

I keep waiting for you again and again.

I am the one who will wait for you all your life today, tomorrow and forever:

    I am your dog

  • Still can not get online

This is why we are still offline at home : Car burst into flames after brake failure

Apparently the heat melted some of the BT equipment and 2 weeks on they are waiting for replacement parts.

BT tell us it could be another week before we are back online at home. Thank goodness we have the computers in our local library!

    Many thanks for your patience,
    Beryl

  • Back soon

Due to internet connection problems I am struggling to write any new articles.

Hopefully things will be back to normal very soon.

  • Two young Podencos hoping for forever homes

    Paqui podenco Atos 400 1 6 2023
    From Paqui

‘Let’s fight for the poor PODENCOS

This is Atos, a Podenco Orito, and below is MINT. Two of the most WONDERFUL breeds and at the same time the most PUNISHED in this country of Spain. Both INVISIBLE, young and rotting after damn in a shelter. They are in Malaga but they can travel.

ATOS and MINT, both were going on the directionless road where their abused little bodies would lead them, they were rescued in terrible conditions and are now in a kennel. Don’t let them fall into oblivion forever.

ATOS (Podenco Orito) is one year old, very sweet, we already know Podencos are angels without wings, would you like to give him a home? Give me a call… Contact : Mcarmen Rincon (Spain 0034) 691036286

MINT (Podenca) is not even 2 years old and very sweet with everyone. Contact: Angeles Dominguez (Spain 0034) 644761436 )

  • Podenca Rosie’s diary – what she’s been up to

    Rosie tout seule 400
Just as a change from appeals for help with vet fees and lovely hounds looking for adoption, I thought I’d share some pix of my Podenca Rosie’s life 16 months on from arriving at our home. She’s a happy tail-waggy dog in the home environment but still very nervous of people and life outside. And like a typical podenco, she is totally loyal to me, following me everwhere.

Our blind podenco Bo has a stand for his feed bowl but I wasn’t going to pay £22 for one for Rosie, which came with a feed bowl and I don’t need any more of those! So, as we live with a handyman, Rosie now has her hand crafted bespoke feed stand. She can’t go anywhere without one of her stuffed toys in her mouth – they get regularly washed but she will drop them anywhere! She’s also an office dog and a little monkey for delving into the waste bin in the study where she knows empty crisp or nut packets are dropped – her version of recycling! She also loves raunging on her back on her bed, much to the amusement of Bo! She also proudly carries her bandana advertising Podenco Post!

Hope these bring a smile to your faces!
