Podenca Martinica – looking for a quiet foster or adoption
Martinica, only 1 year old and already suffered at the hands of a galguero. She was brought into Fundacion Benjamin Mehnert, Seville on 16/04/2025 with a limp and deformity of her left ankle. A follow up x-ray revealed an old humerus fracture where the bone had shattered. Appeared to have been caused by gunshot. She is looking for a quiet calm home with another dog, to recover from her ordeal and operation. -
The hardest part of having a dog
This week I had a message from a lovely lady whose Mum adopted a little podenco X from me 13 years ago. Bobby was much loved by Jane, her daughter and sisters Claire and Deborah. It’s thanks to them that Bobby had such a wonderful last few years, they made a lot of sacrifices to take him on after Jane, and they gave him the absolute best. After a wonderful life in a loving home he developed cancer and has sadly crossed the rainbow bridge. RIP Bobby.R.M. Drake from the book ‘ Dog People’
“What’s the hardest part about having a dog?” they asked, their tone casual, like it was just another question.
The hardest part about loving a dog is knowing that one day, you’ll have to say goodbye. From the moment they come into your life, you know their time is limited, but you push that thought away, pretending the day will never come. You invest your heart in them, share the quiet mornings, the playful afternoons, the long walks that seem endless. They become more than just a part of your life—they become a part of you.

Podenco Felix – 10 years in a home, now in a perrera!
Too much overbreeding by galgueros andd too much abandonment of their dogs. The sad fate of Podencos. Once the Invisibles of Spain but now hundreds adopted in Europe, the US and Canada. This is the sad tale of one podenco who has ended up in a perrera.
ADOPTING IS AN ACT OF LOVE AND GENEROSITY

I have your image engraved in my bones and my soul.” -

Rescue and Love Shelter destroyed in the floods
This is a report from Akira Dog Sanctuary who are helping a shelter Rescue and Love destroyed in the recent floods. It;s an example of what so many of the shelters need to rebuild the kennels.
From Rescue &Love – Dana has blown our shelter and although our dogs are ALL in foster homes, they are VERY temporary fosters and we need to reopen our facility ASAP. Unfortunately, for that we need your cooperation because we do not have enough money, we also appreciate cooperative labor, because it is impossible for us to face more debts.

Deaf and blind podenco urgently needs a foster or adoption home
So heartbreaking when a foster home is lost. Fingers crossed this lovely hound soon as a new one or, even better, a forever home.
‘UPDATE: It is so Urgent that we are looking for a paid foster.
We pulled LUCAS from a collection center, they had tried to kill him with a strong blow to the head with a stick that left him deaf and blind on one side.
LUCAS is scared of the street, but he loves to play with other dogs and when he gets trust he feels loved.
He had a wonderful foster but it’s over, and it’s over now, we need Urgent foster for him, going to a kennel would be very hard after knowing a home.
He is in Salamanca.’
(I don’t have contact details for the lady who posted him on my Podenco Post facebook page).
