  • Podenco Bud – saved from Valencia perrera

Video of podenco Bud in Valencia perrera, taken there by his hunter owner on CESE – fast track to be killed, but rescued by Angie and taken in by Bev and Warren at Podenco Friends. There is a good team of people working with the perrera staff to help the dogs there. It’s to help podencos like Bud that Ellen and TEAM PODENCOS are raising funds.

  • Podencos and cats

Some podencos live happily with cats, so I would like to share with you these wonderful photos to illustrate this. BUT care should always be taken when introducing the two species. Thank you to Bev Farmer, Natalie van Noten and Flavia Schwarz-Greiter. (Please do not resuse pix without the permission of these ladies)

  • Spanish hounds in the UK – educating vets about Leishmania

UK vets don’t seem to have much knowledge of leishmania – and now that so many Spanish dogs are being adopted there, we need to educate them. I always recommend an annual blood analysis for leishmania, even if the passport blood reports say ‘negative’. It has been known for a ‘negative’ dog to develop leishmania.

So please share the information on this link with your UK vet. Those of us with experience of dogs with leishmania know it’s nothing to be concerned about once the treatment is in place…but we need to educate the UK vets, especially on where to get the requisite medication. One couple I know used to travel back to Spain just to get it, as they couldn’t get it in the UK or on the Internet.

  • 25 dogs needing winter coats?

A friend of mine near Pons (France) who makes waterproof lined coats which would fit the larger podencos, now has 25 ready for needy hounds. Is there an association who could take them to a refuge in Spain. Contact me.

  • The truth about Perreras! ACTIN Spain tells it as it is.

A very good article written by Viv Wharton, founder of ACTIN, and why I always advocate adopting a podenco from a recognised shelter/rescue association.

Are you unwittingly supporting crimes against dogs? The truth about Perreras!! Do you wonder why your local charity cannot take the dog that was abandoned at your gate?

  • 19 podencos on death row

This morning there are 19 appeals to save podencos in perreras in Spain, one a mother and pup. Until there are more podencos adopted from the refuges, these innocent souls can’t be saved, as there is no room for them. Please help the podencos.
