AIRLINES AND AIRPORTS WANT TO RESTRICT THE TRANSPORT OF DOGS AND AS USUAL, THE BLAME IS ON THE DOGS INSTEAD OF THEIR OWNERS
Mo Swatek writes. ‘First of all I find it really disgusting that airports are allowed to use carpeting where thousands of people walk on daily. Billions of human germs could be in that carpet, impossible to disinfect. So the pee of a dog is probably the less harrassing that could happen when we let, for example a child touching the carpet. I have seen men spitting on carpets and other disgusting things.
As for dogs flying, in general… the humans are to be blamed for all the mess, not the dogs. The humans are not respectful with their environment, no matter where and their reckless behavior causes people to complain about dogs but generally they should complain about the dogs’ owners.
As the founder of 2 sighthound rescue charities we fly dogs from Spain to America on a regular basis. Never ever have we had problems with dogs pooping or peeing where they should not do it, they can be walked/ exercised before and right after flying. Most airports have dog relief areas to do so. And of course we always carry paper towels etc to clean if ever needed, the same as a mother is prepared when travelling with a child!
As for emotional support animals, I can imagine that there is a possibility that some abuse has taken place but again, it’s the owner an not the dog to be blamed if a so called support dog behaves badly.
The transport of dogs is not cheap, a international flight can cost you just for the dog in the hold 350-400USD just for the dog one way, not including the crate you have to buy (another 150USD), vet health certificate etc.
The pregnant service dog giving birth at the airport is a completely different scenario and again the responsibility is the dog’s irresponsible owner who should never have travelled with a dog so close to giving birth and airlines should have rejected the dog when boarding
The dog who has bitten a childs face, there might be even several people to be blamed such as the parents for not taking enough control over the child and the dog’s owner. We do not know the circumstances that led to the dog biting, so putting the blame on the dog is proof that the person who wrote the article about it does not understand much about dogs and has not researched and just takes for granted that it was the dog’s fault.
