  • Update on chocolate podenca Angela

From Bev. Angela’s health is not good, she has kidney failure along with other problems. She’s on a lot of medication to support her kidneys. The only other option is a catheter and dialysis but this is painful and invasive and I have done this before without success. So we are doing the best we can to help her, time will tell.

If I could my hands on the person who did this I think this time I wouldn’t be reserved. On a positive note Angela appears to be in good spirits so we must be hopeful of a good outcome

  • Thank You, you lovely readers

Thanks to donations, many from you lovely readers, the starving young podenca is saved and will go into foster in Malaga, and also the two podencos in a cage (on CESE) who will also go into foster, but a sponsor is needed for 30 euros/month to pay for their food. • Murcia pup in rubbish bin – update

Sadly she didn’t make it. She had been named Fabienne. RIP little soul.

  • Animales Rioja – land needed which doesn’t flood – please sign appeal.

You may have read on Galgo News about Animales Rioja having to move their 70+ dogs out of their rescue area because of severe flooding and non-stop rain. Their dogs are all fostered and boarded out in kennels, which they have to pay for. They are asking their local Town Council for help with a new piece of ground. Please sign this petition and share it as widely as possible for them.

I just signed the petition “Ayuntamiento de Logroño: Cesion de terreno para crear un refugio para Animales Rioja” Our goal is to reach 15,000 signatures and we need more support. You can read more and sign the petition here.

  • Zorro update

For those of you who followed the story of podenco Zorro, he is now safe with Bev Farmer.

  • Apologies

for the lack of news at the moment. I am in the UK arranging palliative care for my mother in law, have restricted access to a computer and the Internet, and no facility for uploading photos. I am due to return to my home in France on 19/20 January – so long as the snow here in the UK has thawed and disappeared!

  • Should a dog be kept on a chain?

In France, many dogs are kept on short chains as ‘guard’ dogs – even border collies! In Spain and on the Spanish Islands, many dogs spend their lives chained up. Here’s an interesting article asking the question ‘should a dog be chained up?’.

  • Several Podencos murdered in Valencia perrera since Xmas! Plus dozens of other dogs.

Valencia perrera update – the puppy is going into foster, the mother bitch is left behind. Dominique reports ‘The only 3 left are the young smooth 8 months old female, described as thin but happy and outgoing, and the mother of the pup. This perrera is ruthless.’
