Scarred Podenco Frodo, hoping for a better future
Many years ago Bev Farmer rescued a podenca from a golf course with similar scars along her back, lke this poos podenco.Frodo is a very sweet and submissive dog. The scar on his back teaches us something from his past that was very painful for sure, but he only lets himself be cared for and loved.
Frodo is affectionate and already enjoying walks outside the shelter.
Let’s hope it doesn’t become another potency.. another podenco forgotten for months and months without anyone looking at it.

What chance do these tinies have, dumped at a city hall in Axarquia. The shelters are full, fosters full…Life is so hard for the Spanish hounds.

Fuerteventura perrera – terriified podencos need rescue
Fuerteventura is one of the smaller Canary Islands and as I am always saying, it’s extremely hard for podencos there to find homes on mainland Europe becaue of the cost of transport. Even worse for these poor podencos in the perrera, what hope for them? There are 65 dogs in the perrera, it’s full to bursting. The brown & white podenca is only 2 yesrs old, the black puppy 4 months old.Salvavidas Anidemaicrag is trying to rescue them.

Chained and unwanted – a young podenca
Poor lttle podenca chained up on concrete because her cruel owner doesn’t want her. Vets in the UK – taken over by hedge funds and insurance companies result in exorbitant fees!
Vet groups in the UK have been taken over by hedge funds, insurance companies and other groups concerned only with making a profit. This results in fees which many pet owners cannot afford. For people on their own or elderly, a dog or cat is their only companion and the situation is such now that they cannot afford to have a dog or cat because they can’t afford the diabolical vet fees. As wth most things in the UK – it’s yet again RIP OFF BRITAIN! Whatever happened to the caring society?My experience recently was that my Podenca Rosie had bad diarhorrea and starvation for 3 days did not sort it. Wouldn’t you know it, it was a bank holiday in the UK! So I telephoned my vet surgery which was closed and was referred to another surgery. Usual consultation – check heart, pulse, temperature, gums – prescribed a probiotic paste. Consultation fee – £288 inc vat – total bill £341. I’ve paid it, of course, but that is a huge amount when I’m long retired and living on pensions.

Benefits of CBD oil for dogs
Our blind Podenco Bo recently was so keen to follow Rosie outside into the garden that he slipped on the wet wooden ramp from our back door and his back legs gave way under him. This resulted in him being unable to walk normally and so off he went to see the vet, as it was obviously distressing Bo. He was given a course of anti inlflammatory painkillers which helped him, but his back legs are still sometimes a little ‘off sync’. So I have put him on a half pipette of CBD oil. I found this worked as a natural pain reliever for my galgo Polar a few years back with his arthritic knee join which he had damaged as a puppy.
CBD oil is hemp oil, a natural remedy which I’m a great believer in.

3 years in a perrera – Podencos now with Galgos del Sol
Video on facebook, hopefully you can see it. 2 are certainly podencos, one possibly a x podenco. At the moment they are being kept together because they are so bonded. Feltie, Porthos, Arthos and Aramis.
