Podenca abandoned and at risk – brave rescue
Heartwarming video of a wonderful rescue of a podenca abandoned and living in a drain beneath a busy road. Often this is where the hounds will shelter, especially if they are pregnant.
The story of the “motorway” podenca rescued by Michel Rescue Dogs and friends written in Las Provincias, one of the most important Spanish newspapers/news websites in the Valencian region smile emoticon. A story of dedication and love to save this dog abandoned by the side of the motorway. Special thanks to Michel and other podenco and animal activists in Spain, especially Silvia Muñoz Genoves. Also to our friend Marilyn Purkis who works and works for the dogs, for her offering a foster home if needed. For the moment this sweet podenca, now named Atena, is recovering safe and loved at Michel’s home. With hopes this article in the Spanish press can help in the fight to bring an end to the appalling abuse and abandonment suffered by hunting dogs in Spain.

Peaceful Protest for Spanish Hounds – 1st May 2016 in London, Manchester & Glasgow
So many podenco passionatas around Europe would love to join the Peaceful Protest Marches in London, Manchester and Glasgow today. They have sent messages of support to the organisers – here’s one from Claire Cauldfield. Claire writes: “Keep up the good work and make everybody aware of the poor hunting dogs’ plight in Spain. I live in Spain. Just 2 weeks after we moved here we found a podenco who had been dumped, barely 9 months old. The owner didn’t want her. We kept her. They are wonderful dogs. As you can see she has made herself at home. We take food every month to 2 dog shelters. It is so sad to see so many dogs there, most of which are hunting dogs. Good luck.”

PRESS RELEASE – 28 APRIL 2016
A huge pack of ex-Spanish hunting dogs will march to the Spanish Embassy and 10 Downing Street, London on the 1st of May, the International Day of the Podenco, in protest at the mass abandonment of hunting dogs in Spain.
Families who have adopted abandoned Spanish hunting dogs in the UK will gather with their dogs in Belgrave Square, central London at 11am this 1st of May to mark the International Day of the Podenco. They will march with their dogs to the Spanish Embassy, 39 Chesham Place at 12pm and on to 10 Downing Street for 2pm to protest about the cruel treatment of the podencos, galgos (Spanish greyhounds), pointers, setters, bodegueros and other breeds that are abused in their lives and discarded in their thousands upon thousands every year in Spain.
