Guardia Civil arrest staff from Triple A animal shelter, 13 more being investigated
Story in the Spanish press today – heartbreaking for all the animals concerned! When an association is registered as a Protectora in Spain, it is just that – to protect animals, not kill them!
This is the story on the Guardia Civil website – translation to English by Mo Swatek, Pro Galgo Internationa.
The Civil Guard detained four employees of the animal shelter Triple A and is investigating another 13 for committing various offenses
The protective, performing sacrifices of healthy animals without any clinical judgment, by non-medical staff, had a policy “sacrifice 0”
In the related documents seized with economic management it has also detected diversion of funds from the association for private purposes.

Axarquaia Animal Rescue – Podenco Flash and his friends waiting for forever homes
I met some of the volunteers from Axarquia Animal Rescue at the PAES conference last October. Like so many people involved in animal rescue in Spain, they do incredible work for long hours and need supp0ort in homing their hounds. Here is one stunning little podenco.
Hi everybody, my name is Flash (AAR 1329) and I was found abandoned, hungry and really skinny last October 15, 2015.

Can you help this Podenco – advertised for free on Gumtree UK!!
This is not the first time a Podenco has been advertised for free on Gumtree in the UK. It makes me blazing that these people don’t understand that, if they can’t keep a dog, they need to tell the rehoming/rescue association so they have a chance to sort the problem out. That is, if the dog was taken into the country through an association…looks like this poor boy wasn’t and there is no backup for him. Grrrrrrr! Can anyone help?

PODENCO PATERNINO of Huelva Province – Edy for adoption
Edy – a special and unusual black and white podenco boy who longs to be loved, but is still so shy and nervy and would need a very gentle patient family to build his confidence. Edy was in the kill pound in Valencia and saved by volunteers, he is safe in a kind kennels in Spain but he has got quite stuck and as he only knows rural kennels (for far too long) is very scared of anyone or anything new. But he is the most handsome gentle boy and would become your most wonderful friend. Will you show Edy that he is NOT invisible and that he too can have a loving family of his own, a sofa, soft bed and fabulous walks. Please contact pollymathewson@hotmail.com

Peaceful Protest Sunday 1st May 2016 – in London, Manchester and Glasgow
How did it come about? I’ve been publicising the plight of the podenco since I became involved with their rescue, fostering and rehoming back in 2007, along with galgos. In those days most people hadn’t heard of podencos, outside of their rescuers in Spain and those living there with the problem of abandoned ones. In 2009 Ed Verhaegan created Podencoworld, a leading podenco rescue and rehoming association in Holland. But still publicity was mostly about galgos, always the galgos! Yet the podencos suffer just as much maltreatment.
It wasn’t until about 3 years ago that there was an explosion of interest through facebook and now these fantastic hounds are getting the help they deserve, as far as is humanly possible, bearing in mind the over-breeding and mass abandonment the cazadores and podenqueros continue to practice.
