Telde, Gran Canaria – the nightmare for the podencos continues!
Telde is a town and a municipality in the eastern part of the island of Gran Canaria, Canary … The city Telde is located 4 km from the coast and 16 km south of the island capital Las Palmas.
SIGN AND SHARE PLEASEIn the city of Telde, unscrupulous individuals are committing an atrocity against animals that have no name. They are using dogs during the hunting season, and when they are no longer used to hunt, they are thrown alive by a cliff, so that they do not have to feed them any more.
They repeat the same thing year after year: they keep the dogs in pitiful conditions, making them go hungry and without giving them a minimum of affection. Then they hunt with them, throw them down the ravine at the end of the hunting season and in the next season they look for new dogs to replace the previous ones. Thus repeatedly and without any sanction by the town of Telde.
There are clear indications of who are the authors of this barbarity and in different plenary sessions of the city council has already been requested to be persecuted and to pay their punishment. But the City of Telde DOES NOTHING. He claims that they do not have to pay for the necropsy that must be done at the Veterinary Institute to investigate how these dogs have died and in whose hands.
Sign this petition so that we are many who raise the voice of animals. Demand the Telde City Council to take responsibility for stopping this killing of dogs.
The culprits have to be punished so that next time they will think twice before acting like this against these defenseless animals.

5th June 2017 – Olivenza Perrera, Badajoz, Extremadura, Spain closes down
Today the notorious privately run Olivenza Perrera closes its doors to dogs, as its licence has not been renewed. But there are still huge problems for the 104 dogs still in there.

The sub-human hunters of Tenerife – where they hang and starve their podencos!!
Sadly the cruelty in the Canary Islands continues…Tenerife again!
The complaint of a dog hung and other canines dead at a finca at Arico has raised the alarm about the suspicion of another supposed ‘estate of horrors’ like the ones in the past few months have been uncovered in Güímar and Arona. Agents of State Security have already approached the finca to check what the images show but the place has appeared completely normal. It is suspected that this may be due to a last-minute cleaning job caused by the alarm on social media (facebook).

Tenerife – What the tourists don’t see
Completely starved, basically just a skeleton; this is Bety, a Podenco which fell from the second floor of a building in the Central calle Heraclio Sanchez of San Cristobal de La Laguna in Tenerife, Canary Islands. She was taken to the hostel Comarcal Valle Colino where the Director of the hostel, Adriana Naranjo says ‘she is exhausted and now resting.’ There, Bety is feeding, holding forces and waiting for, after an assessment of her health, she can be offered for adoption. The resident on the floor from where Bety fell in the Teide area said ‘I don’t want the dog, it is a piece of shit, no use for hunting,’ confirms Adriana.
The local police unit of La Laguna took charge of the case in record time, thanks to the good work of the agents and their involvement. There are enough sensitive citizens against animal abuse,”tells Jonathan Domínguez, Councillor for citizen security at the Town Hall of La Laguna. “We received the call warning at 1715 hours and, once neighbors saved her fall with a blanket while the police tried to contact the tenants of the apartment, agents took her to the vet where it was confirmed through the chip that the original owner was a neighbor of Los Altos de La Victoria”, continues Dominguez.

Good news for the dogs of Mijas, Malaga
They are to get their own dog park. More places should create dog parks, especially holiday areas where, in France for example, dogs are not allowed on the beaches from 1st June to 30th September. Fair enough, people on beaches don’t want dogs and dog dirt around them. Read the story here.

The Container Dogs case – the truth
Regular readers will remember the story a couple of years ago about the Container Dogs in Murcia and the hard work ACTIN association did, along with their lawyer, to try and get the dogs released. Sadly their work has been maligned publicly and the asso has been forced to issue yet another statement about the case.
‘Sorry to have to do this again but it still continues and it’s important for future cruelty cases in Spain, please ask people to share and spread the truth.
There is still a very bad rumour that the dogs involved in this case died, and for reasons that we don’t really understand but are currently being dealt with – the rumour says there was no case, or the dogs didn’t exist and other very damaging things.

Cool food for hot dogs!
Suggestion from Axarquia Animal Rescue, Spain, to cool down dogs in hot weather. Cooked rice and veggies, frozen in a bun tray. I’ve used a similar recipe to stuff hollow bones, frozen in foil to keep off human food! The dogs love them!
