The Ugly Face of Mogan, Gran Canaria – Caro de Perro on TV 19/7/2017
The fight to help the 90 podencos of Mogan, Gran Canaria, continues. On Wednesday evening this week 19th July 2017 a programme will be show on TV on the subject. The group teaming manager writes this. ‘Wednesday evening 4 TV will show in its program “A Cara de Perro (the face of the dog)” the case of the 90 podencos. After weeks of contact with the producer, the seriousness of the facts, the great documentation and evidence, they did not hesitate to include it in this last program. For those of you who are still there, still fighting for these dogs, I will continue to do all that is in my hands to make the largest possible noise. This program is dedicated to them, the victims. Thank you for supporting!’
April 2017 Update.
At the plenary session of the City Council of Agüimes Buenas held in April 2017 the opposition made in the section “Questions and” a consultation on the issue of the ’90 podencos”after nearly 17 months. Here is a video of the meeting; if any Spanish speaker can translate the discussion, it will be appreciated.
A reminder of the appalling situation first publicised about the 90 podencos of Mogan in January 2016.

Podenca Bety – fell or was thrown from an apartment block
This is Spanish dictionary translation of a story which appeared in a Tenerife paper last month. It’s a story all too common for the podencos of the Canary Islands.
No one wants to take Betty, the dog who fell from a window
To Betty, they don’t want to adopt it. The belief that it is only a dog away from the homes and apartments of individuals, not hunters, not taking into account that the podencos as Bety remain dogs. Not so furry or ‘monkeys’ as others, but just as caring and faithful.
Bety was abandoned by her original owner, a Hunter in the upper area of La Victoria, one month ago at the Teide. I didn’t want it. “It’s a dog’s shit that is useless.” After roaming a place like Las Cañadas, where she was just thrown scraps, she was found by a neighbor of the calle Heraclio Sanchez of the lagoon.

Podenca Podengo in Portugal – looking for a forever home
Laika is a pretty little Podenca Podengo who has been given to the Dogs of Portugal association because her hunter is going away. She is a similar size (6/5kg) to my little Podenca Andaluz Bebe – a little dog with a huge character! Read about Laika on this link and contact the association if you can offer her a forever home.

Spanish hounds at play in France
I’ve made a couple of videos of the Spanish gang at home. In order of arrival, Bebe is the little Podenca Andaluz from Seville, now 14 years old; she came at 6 years old with a damaged hind leg from an RTA. Carmela is the grey/white brindle galga, 12 years old; she came as a foster dog with serious problems from maltreatment. I brought her out of Spain with me on one of the rescues with L’Europe des Levriers. It was over 2 years before I considered her recovered enough to be homed…so she stayed with us! Bracken is the dark brindle galgo, now 8 years old, from Galgos del Sol. He came as a foster, adopted in the UK but sadly, due to an ill-health change of circumstances there, David adopted him! Finally is cream galgo Polar, now 4 years old, from Pepis Dog Rescue in Pedrera. Regular readers know his story so far.
It is his left hind leg which he damaged as a puppy and 4 specialist vets have said there is no guarantee an operation would improve his movement. You can see in the videos that he is not hampered by it, but it is swollen with calcification of the bone. He’s been on MSM but I am now putting him on Turmeric.

Tenerife – prosecuting the hunter who hung his podenco!
Tenerife Seprona finally take action against a hunter for maltreatment of his podenco…he hung it! Here is a Spanish dictionary translation of the story.
They investigate a case of animal abuse suffered by a hound in La Orotava
Agents of the service of protection of nature (Seprona) of the Guardia Civil in Puerto de la Cruz (Tenerife) are investigating a man as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of animal abuse and neglect.
The incident occurred when the Civil Guard officers received an alert citizen, who recounted how he had been witness to the existence of a dog breed podenco in the municipality of La Orotava and that was with serious injuries in the neck due to a rope that was attached.
