  • Canary Islands, SARA Protectora – help the hounds on the Spanish Islands

SARA Milka 190 3 2012I can’t emphasise enough about the podencos on the Spanish Islands, Canary Islands and Ibiza. Their only hope of forever homes is on mainland Europe. Please don’t overlook these deserving hounds when you are thinking of taking a podenco into your home.

These two beauties are in the care of SARA Lanzarote in the Canary Islands.

Milka is about 6 years old, a large podenco canario, and was found abandoned with her sistenr in the volcano on Lanzarote. She’s not much of a hunter, prefers to be with people, loving and obediante, walks without being on a lead. A fantastic hound for a companion dog. She is very good and happy

  • Operation Rehala, Murcia – 120 dogs at risk – the whole story

Bullos Murcia 2 250 3 3 201224 hours to save the dogs from Bullas
    6 March 2012
    by Irene Crespo

Yes, the authorities only granted 24 hours to rescue all the dogs in Bullas (Murcia) and out of the hell where they are. Removing the remaining 70 dogs in that situation in 24 hours … Mission Impossible?

Well this is not the first bureaucratic difficulty with which foundationn Pro-Setter (The association that is coordinatating the rescue of these animals) and volunteers from other organizations that work with them are encountering.

  • Torre del Campo, Jaen – another injured galgo – what is wrong in Spain>

    Lourdes Pulgar tells the story.

A couple of days ago, someone took a male galgo to the protectora, which they found in Lindares. Now I have been to collect it to take to the garage/mini refuge refuge where there are 8 more dogs.

I was told that it could not walk; it is not lame. has problems of co-ordination and walks as if it was drunk; he eats and drinks as if it had parkinson. I cannot express how I have felt while it was walking – see the videos, it was falling down and
it was stumbling constantly while I was crying was cursing the hunter who has left it.

Less than a year old, he has had a VERY STRONG BLOW IN THE HEAD and this
is the cause of the problem; it also has woulds to its feet. It is ill too.

  • Podenco Ibicenco needs caring person to save him and rehabilitate him

Lira_3 250Lira is an Ibizan Hound of 3-4 years that fell into a ditch while he was out hunting. With the bad luck that other dogs fell on it, and thus was the worst injured, otherwise his injuries would not have been so serious.

Lira is a medium-sized Hound (it will not reach 20 kgs, should be closer to 15 than 20), very good and is searching for someone to give him a chance, to help him record and a chance of life. If no one takes care of him, he will be sacrificed because he has already been three months in the clinic and needs time spending with him, to exercise, time, etc. (I’ve asked why no x-rays yet!)
