  • Braveheart – ACTIN in action again

Valiente 1 250 14 5 2015Less than a week ago (May 2015) one of Actin’s team was contacted and asked to investigate this terrible case; a dog tied up on a chain in a hidden cave in a horrible town in Murcia where animals are treated like garbage…

On arrival they found this most pathetic and sad sight and because of what he suffered they named him Valiente, (Brave). Valiente attached to a short chain, old, skinny, sick and hardly able to move, the saddest of souls. He was about to give up, the rescuers were just in time to help him – before he succumbed to his life of misery.

Valiente is about 10 years old, so sad to think someone had him living this hell for all his life and caused him to be in such pain and endure such suffering. His condition as diagnosed by the vet; arthritis atrophy, osteoarthritis atrophy, cachexy, and sclerosis in the eye, amazingly he is not positive for leishmania.

  • Dog fighting – old podenco used as bait! Please help

Podenco pitbull 1 170 28 4 2015A fantastic animalist girl has been called to help this poor old podenco. He was given to a pitbull who has used him as sparring and broke his leg. A wonderful courageous woman stopped this torture and took the pod with her.

He has been to the vet but the break is so bad, the leg is in such a bad condition that he has been transported to Estepona where a specialist in difficult bones breaks is trying to do anything he can. He will be operated and it will be a high amount of money for this girl to cope alone with.

She will put asap the bill online in order we can send her help. As soon as we have the bill and the paypal address, please help towards the vet costs. She prefers to wait until she has the bill.

  • Valencia gitano – the cruelty continues…Little Pod Association to the rescue

Little pod vet 2 dogs 250 5 2015From Little Pod Association.

‘Here we go again… The Gypsy in Valencia is expecting a visit from authorities and will ‘get rid’ of 2 more dogs before they arrive. THEY ARE IN DESPERATE NEED OF HELP!!!! The first dog is chained to a wall 24/7 with a horse next to her. She is unable to get up. The second dog is kept in a crate.

So now we have them! Please officially meet Phoenix and Lolly

First and foremost we must thank Lorraine Edwards at Lozzas Podenco Rescue who committed to helping Lolly without any information, just a picture and a plea for help.

So updates on the girls starting with Lolly. Lolly is actually not in too bad a condition, she can’t have been there long that’s for sure. She is (amazingly) negative for all Mediterranean diseases, but she does have a small fatty lump on her back which will be removed when she is spayed. She is holding up one of her back legs but it seems to be due to a pad rather than a serious injury… it seems to be caused by not moving a lot until the last couple of days. She is completely stunning and when ready will make her way to the UK to Lozzas.

Little Pod vet 250 2 5 2015Phoenix unfortunately is in a real state…. It takes a lot to shock me these days but this poor sweet girl…the pictures speak for themselves really. She is positive for Ehrlichia Ana Plasma but is negaitive for Filaria and Leishmania. Although we haven’t been able to find mites on her skin she must have them (they are difficult to find), so as a precaution we are treating both girls for this as they have been together and they are now in quarantine up at the Finca with Janette and Anotonio.

She is lame in her back right leg and holding it up but Eduardo cannot find a serious injury, it could be painful for not using it for so long after being chained to a wall for who know how long. She has a huge tumor that needs to be removed but an operation is just not possible at this time.

Her faeces show us she has only been eating straw so we have started her on a really good puppy food to help her gain some weight and delicately encourage her digestion system to start functioning. She is just skin and bone at the moment, but I know Janette will soon change this, she doesn’t have skinny dogs. Once she has regained some health and weight we will book her in to be spayed and remove the tumor.

She is such a sweet girl, you just cannot understand how someone can do this. Thank you to everybody who has donated towards her treatment and sent messages and well wishes for her.

We must say a huge thank you to the wonderful lady that has the horrible task of dealing directly with the gypsy involved. It’s a job we could never do and although we keep her anonymous on FB she knows who she is and she is an angel.

  • Podenco Portuguese puppies – waiting for forever homes

Wanda and puppies 190 4 2015Here is a story about an abandoned podenca – an all too common story in Spain.

I am a Canadian living in Valencia, Spain for the past 2 years. I have been overwhelmed by the stray dog crisis in this country. I have tried to help in different way and ended up adopting 4 large dogs that now are happy living with me

Last week, we found a Podengo Portuguese 2 blocks from my place in an empty area. She had given birth to 6 puppies and was always barking when anybody got close. We started visiting daily and taking food to her and the pups. We finally decided to go in and catch her, who was very protective of her puppies and with the help of professional rescuers we got them all.
