  • Granada, Spain…under threat from the Spanish Cazador!

Granada podencos Mom 170 7 2015My heart breaks when I read stories and appeals like this, Look at the eyes of this podenca mom…please help me and my babies. An all too common in so many countries because people will not sterilise their animals! Diana explains.

‘This is,sadly, a too common drama in Spain. Seven podencos pups and the mum living rough in a plot in a field. The owner doesn’t want them there and is going to ‘make them ” disappear “. They are in a little tiny hunter’s village in Granada. I know it is a desperate call for help, but maybe we can do something. Maybe we can take the mum and spay her and maybe, take the pups as well… or maybe nothing. But I have to try! Anyone who can help? Contact Diana Fisio Salobreña (via facebook)

  • Valencia Container dogs…update

ACTIN Container dogs 250 18 7 2015Here is the latest news from ACTIN about the situation for the container dogs. Permission now given to publicise this. Please continue to support ACTIN‘s legal team, a successful outcome for this case can be a precedent for use in the whole of Spain!

‘The owners have kept their dogs in the container for 5 years, we are trying to find out about previous dogs. Actin was only informed of this 2 months ago. Previous denuncias and complaints in the past, since 2010, have had no effect. Right now there are 4 dogs and 1 puppy inside; we can report some positive changes. The dogs have food and water, this has improved. The owners have coated the inside of the container with a material to regulate temperature, heat inside is the same as outside; we are not satisfied with this, BUT it is 20 degrees less than it would have been.

  • Galgos del Sur, Cordoba – saving puppies dumped as waste

Galgos del Sur 4 pups 250My name is Patricia Almansa and I´m the head of Galgos del Sur, a little animal organization from Córdoba, Andalucía (South Spain). We have a big problem with podencos, nobody ask for they and we didn´t find any organization who help them.

The last case is very urgent. We rescued 4 podenco puppies one week ago from a dumpster (ribbish bin). They were in a bag closed with tape. Just in Córdoba we have a heat wave with temperatures higher than 45º; if we hadn´t found in this moment then I´m sure they would have died soon. They have a lot of ticks, wounds, it took us 3 days to take out everything and clean them.

We need help to find good homes for the little podencas, they can´t grow in a kennel. Could anyone help us? There is one boy Bruma (first pic), and 3 girls Arena, Brisa and Marea

  • From Perrera to Finca Podenco Friends, Murcia – meet Perla

Bev Farmer tells the story of Perla.

Perla arrived on Friday 35d July 2015 and we have given her some space but yet another Podenca terrified out of her mind. This is not fear from a change of circumstances, this is from a deeply rooted sustained abuse of some type. She will need many months of help and support to break her out of this world of terror she lives in.

In the last 3 months we have taken in 5 podencos all very similar issues and it cant be just because they are nervous by nature. Dogs learn by association the positive and the negatives and if treated badly for long enough, establish what hurts them is to be avoided.

  • Podenco Motif Hat for a Podenco Adoptant

Podenco HatI’ve got a couple of patterns for winter hats with galgo motif. I’ve altered one — what do you think, would this be a hat for a podenco owner? If not, any suggestions. I’ve only pinned it to the black hat, hats can come in any colour and the motif sewn on…if you think it’s ok. Comments please.

  • Podenco Bud – the reality of life for Podencos in Spain and the Canary Islands

For everyone who generously gave to our appeal to fund vet fees for Podenco Bud and Moreno, with Podenco Friends in Murcia, here’s a lovely video from Bev Farmer. Sit back and enjoy.

Buds Story…. handed into a perrera by a hunter with the explanation he had been feeding him but thought he was sick and that is why he was so emaciated. We took him into our care and blood tests revealed a different explanation, long term malnutrition, severe anemia. This is not an isolated case, many of the Podencos we rescue come to us in this condition.

I ask please share this video and let the world see what happens to many of the Podencos in Spain, for them its their reality Bud was lucky we got him to us in time watch the video although sad to begin with….. see the magic unfold
