    Sos Podencorescue was founded in September 2013 and ever since the day María Casares and I got together we have worked tirelessly to save, heal, rehabilitate and re-home as many Pods as our finances and the space at the residency would allow.

    Luckily, we have a wonderful band of friends, followers and supporters who all went the extra mile to help us with donations, sponsorships, taking part in auctions and, above all, shared our Pods for all they were worth – we are forever grateful to you all!

  • Podenco Canario Lisa – happy in a forever home

    TARA Lisa 250It’s always great to have a happy homing story. Here’s one about a lucky Podenca Canario rescued and rehomed by TARA association.

    ‘LISA joined the TARA family 11 months ago when she was found on a goat farm that was soon christened “hell” Some caring tourists had stumbled across this place, and could not believe the conditions the animals were kept in.

    Everyday they took food and water to the dogs, and knew they wanted to help some escape these conditions. They contacted TARA and asked for help, and we stepped in to ensure that at least some of the dogs could be saved.

  • Lex – still desperate

    Still desperately seeking a foster or forever home for Lex. He could fly to the UK at the beginning of August, if there is a foster/forever home for him.

    Janice pod pix 250 6 2014These four lovely podencos are lucky, they were saved and are now all living comfortable lives with Janice Ball in the UK. Here’s who they are.

    ‘My four Pods together, just so everyone can see how different they all are, they come in all sizes!! Suzi (white) and little Paco (front right) come from Spanish Stray Dogs UK. Paco is a Podenco Maneto and is quite small with his little legs. Casey and Scarlet are Andalaz Podencos. There are some much bigger as well, so you see there is a Podenco for everyone. So many are discarded every year in Spain and they make such wonderful pets, please do think about adopting one, so many are waiting.’

    Hundreds of podencos are being killed every week in the perreras. That’s because there are hundreds in foster and kennels and refuges waiting to be adopted, so there is no space for the perrera pods. Here’s a comprehensive list of rehoming associations.

  • Portuguese Podengos – 2 more urgently needing forever homes

    Two more podengos in Portugal who have been waiting far too long for forever homes. Here are the details of Vigo, who I mentioned before – and Branqhuina – Branqhuina especially needs a forever home as she will shortly have to leave her foster. Here is Branqhuina on video – Piloto was her puppy who has been rehomed.

  • TARA Gran Canaria – Podenco Lex – can anyone foster in Germany or Spain

    TARA Lex 3 250From TARA association on Gran Canaria. You can see that being in the shelter for so long is taking its toll on Lex, no matter the good care the volunteers take of him. He’s spent half his young life in a shelter. He needs to be in a forever home away from the stress of shelter life.

    ‘LEX-LOOKING FOR A HOME- When Lex was found wandering we knew he had an owner, but due to the fact he was not microchipped we could not return him to his home. Lex has been with us in kennels for 18 months and has now become the longest dog to be without a home.

  • Portuguese Podengo – rescued and needing forever homes

    Portugal Zara 3 250(Photo right of Zara – a Portuguese Podengo puppy) It’s a nightmare for podencos, dozens on death row in the perreras. Dozens more saved and needing forever homes. What is overlooked is that there are podengos in Portugal – yes, Portuguese Podengos (not a typing error!). They too suffer cruelty. Here are five which have been rescued and need forever homes. Jackie writes about them.

  • Valencia – 38 podencos needing rescue…

    and I’ve also just learned there are 38 Valencia podencos rescued and needing foster homes….will update when I have more information.

    UPDATE – these are the ones in over 100 animals including galgos, ferrets, horses…which Scooby is rescuing.

  • ADALA Zaragosa – sick and injured podenco saved

    Zaragoza Bichito 250From SOS Podenco Rescue. ‘Our good friends of ADALA Zaragoza have saved a podenco who is in a horrible condition. If you would like to help them to pay the huge vet bills, here is their Paypal account: adalazaragoza@hotmail.com. Looks like he has mange and was dragged behind a car, his leg may have to be amputated. He’s been named Bichito – which means ‘Little Bug’.
