  • TAIL Torrox, Andalucia – introducing Charley, waiting for a special home

    TAIL Charley 1 250Unlike the keyboard bully to whom I refer in an earlier post, I don’t profess to know all there is to know about podencos. Yes, I’ve been involved in their rescue, foster, rehoming for several years but in order to complete my definitive guide to the plight of the Podenco – From Pyramid to Perrera – I enlisted the help and experience of several other people involved in helping these wonderful hounds. There are new associations to add to the ever growing list on Podenco Post and only this week I have been introduced to one.

    I’d like to introduce you to Charley, a podenco with TAIL Torrox, a refuge in Andalucia. Carly Cole tells his story.

  • Podenco near Cadiz urgently needs a forever home

    Karen Abu 250 1This lovely little podenco is Abu, with a sad history, the scar of which he wears round his neck! He’s been rescued and is in foster but will need to leave soon, so Karen urgently needs another foster home or preferably a forever home for him. Here’s what she says about him.

    Abu, a small podenco. around 6 years old. boy. healthy. Good with bitches and most boy dogs as long as they aren’t dominant. very good nature. In desperate need of a loving home. Has rope scars from being tied probably for long periods of time while owner leaves for days!! This boy has had his share of misery and now deserves to have some
    quality time!!

  • Molly, Foxy Lady, Dave and Tilly – Podenco pals in the UK

    Dawn Richardson 4 pods 250 6 2014Another delightful rehoming story, this time from Dawn Richardson, about her 4 podencos. She regularly takes them to dog shows where they are winning plenty of rosettes.

    ‘I came across Molly our 1st Podenco cross in January 2013 by accident. A friend had invited me to a facebook site called Costa Blanca Dog Homing as she knew we were looking for a dog after losing ours 7 years earlier. I spotted Molly on the site when I saw her photo from Little Pods. Lots of emails later and we reserved Molly pending a home check. The nice lady arrived and gave me lots of info regarding Pods as I never knew or heard about them before. Molly arrived with us in May 2013, and tiny, nervous little girl, but it was love at first sight. Molly soon became more happy & confident but seemed a little lonely.

  • Podencos urgently needing special forever homes

    Blind pod 1 Polly 170 7 2014Two podencos, one born blind, one going blind. They desperately need understanding forever homes. Please take a look at them.

    Pocoyo – a gentle boy who is losing his sight and likely to be completely blind soon urgently needs a loving home. Pocoyo is about aged 5 and a really sweet boy but has been stuck in a residencia in Sevilla for a couple of years after being saved from the perrera.

    As he loses his sight life in an overcrowded refuge is getting increasingly bewildering for him. If we can help him then it also frees up his place in the residencia for another podenco on death row.   • Update on Alba – the Toledo podenco

    This is Alba, the podenca we found in Toledo. Look at her improvement. From a deep scaring outside the house to sleep on his bed beside her fosterer. She is doing very well. She is already sterilised and getting some weight.

  • Born in a Valencia Storm Drain – waiting for forever homes – Podencos

    Every day there are appeals to help save young podencos in the Spanish perreras. It’s heartbreaking. Many of them could be saved if there was room in the shelters for them, but the podencos in shelters need homes. Bev Farmer, Podenco Friends, now has over 40 podencos in her care, waiting for forever homes. Earlier in the year a podenco bitch and her 9 puppies was rescued from a drain in Valencia and arrived at Podenco Friends. 6 of the puppies are reserved but 3 still need their forever homes.   • Toledo podenco needs your help please…

    Elena Alonso appeal 250 4 7 2014Elena Alonso does tremendous work helping rescue abandoned podencos…she doesn’t often ask for financial help but she needs it this time. Here’s what she says.

    ‘She is Alba, a podenca found in Toledo, scared of people and starving. She is been rescued because she was in a bad situation in a hunters area. She is a year and her whole life she is been abandoned and mistreated.

    Thank goodness I’ve found an excellent foster, Eva, who is going to help her recover.
    This is the first time I ask for economic support for a case on my own but I have to pay 240 euros for vet expenses.

  • Podencos in Apartments – Podencoworld Sweden comments

    Helene Portnoff Podencoworld Sweden 250 6 2014For many of us Brits, keeping a dog in an apartment (flat is our word) is not something we accept as much as the Europeans. Having said that, the apartment blocks I have been in in France and Spain are very different from a block of UK flats – they tend to be more spacious. One of my French friends lives in Paris with 5 dogs in her apartment, they get regular walks in the gardens around the block. Helen Portnoff of Podencoworld Sweden also lives in an apartment with 4 dogs. Here she explains.

    You might have asked yourself if it is possible to live in an apartment with a Podenco? Answer: yes. We do, we live in a 3 room apartment but we walk them every four hours and they get to run “free” and play in the dog parc every day.

  • Surrounded by Podencos…adopt one

    Janice Ball pods 1 250Another lovely rehoming story, from Janice Ball, who proves that podencos are addictive – you can’t have just one, you need more!

    The story of how I came to own 4 Podencos is down to me joining facebook, until then I had never heard of a Podenco! I started to see them on various rescue sites and then I spotted Suzi who had been in kennels for over 2 years and no one had enquired about her, she really touched my heart strings and I just fell in love with her. I adopted her there and then and she came over in 2013. She has been with me now a year and she is the prettiest most loving dog ever who greets all her fellow brothers and sisters every morning with kisses and licks. She loves all people and dogs but is not too keen on cats or birds as she sees these as something to chase as she has almost certainly done a bit of hunting at some point in her past life in Spain.
