Maria Vidal writes about two beautiful podencos she has in foster, who need forever homes.
‘I write from Málaga to ask your help. I need to find this two dogs a forever home, can you help me? (sorry if I make too many mistakes, my English is not very good)
These are Chicha (light brown) and Koka (brown and white). They are two young female dogs that were abandoned and ill-treated by a hunter. They were born in some kind of puppy mill that breed Manetos (a mutation of the Podenco with shorter paws created in Andalucia), they have the marks that the breeders tattooed on the ears of the dogs so everyone can know where they were bought (it’s the brand). They were sold to a man that taught them to hunt. He left them into a garage and only took them out in hunting season and used them to give birth new puppies twice a year. A couple of years later he decided to abandon the older one, Koka, so he cut her neck, took the microchip out and left her on the street, but then, Chicha ran as fast as she could to escape too. We don’t know how desperate she had to be as to leave her own puppies behind and run away.
When I found them, I was driving and they crossed the road so I almost ran over them. I saw that they were scared and dirty and I stopped the car and took some bread and sausages to feed them and earn their trust. They were hungry and thirsty. I took them home, bathed them and feed them. I took them to the vet. They had mange, ear mites, some parts of the skin infected and without hair, a few nails were missed and they had scratches and cuts on their faces and legs. Chicha had also her breast inflamed and full of milk with little infected wounds on the nipples.
At first they didn’t know anything, they were afraid of the stairs, the elevator, every quick movement, they were terrified of brooms or any sticks and I couldn’t lift my feet near them because they thought I was going to kick them. They were scared of men, they still are, but when they understand that the man is not a bad person, they even lick and play with him (some sausages as reward do miracles).
As they were used to live locked in a garage for months, they pooped and peed at home, but they have already been house trained. They became very anxious when I left the house until they learnt that I would came back every time and they were never going to be abandoned again, and now they are calm at home. They didn’t know how to walk on a leash, now they do it perfectly.
Koka is a really special dog, at first she get very tense when I cuddle her and she tried to avoid me, but now she is always around me, if I seat, she wants to be on my lap, she push my hands with her little nose asking for attention and petting. She is so sweet and careful. She is about 4 years and she loves to run in the dog parks. She is sociable and playful with every dog and she even let some estrange humans to cuddle her.
Chicha is very loving, she has a very deep look and she will make a very strong bond with her owner. She has a lot of energy and loves playing with the ball and run free in the dog park. She doesn’t like playing with other dogs very much and she has a strong character, she is still afraid of strange people and she doesn’t like them to get too close until she realizes that they are reliable, but then she becomes friendly and loving. She is very funny because her face is so expressive and she loves candies and cuddles!
They have learnt how to be a dog, they have learnt that they have the right to be loved and cared, that they are not a tool, they are not trash and nobody is going to hurt them anymore. That’s the promise I made them the day I rescued them: “Nobody is going to hurt you anymore”.
They are the most intelligent dogs I’ve ever had. They learn really fast and are absolutely loyal. They are very sensitive and know when somebody feels bad or need company. They love being with my dog, a female labrator and playing with my cat as you can see in the pictures.
There is just one thing they have troubles learning: when they go out and smell a trace, they follow it running, cross roads and don’t stop. I am working with them and they have made great progress but the special family that decide to give them a real home will have to work that with them too. That’s their only “issue”.
They need a real home where they can give all the love they have and where they can live happy as they deserve. They love children, dogs and cats. They are spayed and absolutely healthy. It would be perfect if they could be adopted together, but they can be adopted separately too. What really matters is that they find a loving forever home!
They will make you really happy. Adopt them!!

hope they get a home bless them
They are both beautiful and whoever adopts them is going to have two loyal, clever and loving dogs. I really do like the manetos, stunners they are.
