  • The truth about podenco breeders in Spain & Eastern Europe

    Thinking of all the agony and suffering podencos go through in Spain and that it takes more time for them to find a forever family, the first picture makes me so angry! She is from a breeder from podencos somewhere in Eastern Europe, I think. The second picture below is from a breeder in Spain. These are just as nice with a matching carpet, couch, table and walls but they don´t have that, they live on cement without carpet or sofa…no hugs for them neither good food, just old bread and a life of misery.

    Maybe you have to work in rescue to understand and see how they come in, scared, nervous, skeletons, hungry, awful wounds, abused, beaten etc. and you want so bad to find them a loving family. But the breeders’ dogs don´t know that kind of agony, no, they live a life of luxury because her dogs will have pups like her brothers and sisters and their offspring also and will be sold for a lot of blood money.

  • Axarquaia Animal Rescue – Podenco Flash and his friends waiting for forever homes

Like so many people involved in animal rescue in Spain, they do incredible work for long hours and need supp0ort in homing their hounds. Here is one stunning little podenco.

  • Can you help this Podenco – advertised for free on Gumtree UK!!

    This is not the first time a Podenco has been advertised for free on Gumtree in the UK. It makes me blazing that these people don’t understand that, if they can’t keep a dog, they need to tell the rehoming/rescue association so they have a chance to sort the problem out. That is, if the dog was taken into the country through an association…looks like this poor boy wasn’t and there is no backup for him. Grrrrrrr! Can anyone help?

  • PODENCO PATERNINO of Huelva Province – Edy for adoption

    Huelva podenco Edy 170 2Edy – a special and unusual black and white podenco boy who longs to be loved, but is still so shy and nervy and would need a very gentle patient family to build his confidence. Edy was in the kill pound in Valencia and saved by volunteers, he is safe in a kind kennels in Spain but he has got quite stuck and as he only knows rural kennels (for far too long) is very scared of anyone or anything new. But he is the most handsome gentle boy and would become your most wonderful friend.   • Scooby Medina – another 100 hounds arrive at the refuge!

    Another 100 hounds taken to the Scooby refuge including a Mom podenca and her babies just 2 weeks old! They need your help with donations for food, vet bills, volunteer to help, adopt a hound.

    Martin was rescued off the streets and was covered in ticks and injuries.
    He was bathed and the ticks removed and is now healed but has scars from the hard life he has led.
    He is now at risk of being PTS as the shelter he is in is closing and if a home isnt found then he will be sent to a kill shelter.

  • 78 podencos with filaria on Tenerife – Project to save them achieved!

    You may remember back in February 2016 there was an appeal to help 78 podencos on Tenerife. Here is the news – best of all, all the dogs are clear of the filaria (heartworm). Final result PROJECT TIERRA BLANCA FILARIA FREE nearly 8,000€ worth in heartworm treatments received, thanks! Amazing!

    ‘So many things have happened since we started this wonderful project. Thanks to Podencoworld and dozens of supporters who donated the cost of the treatment for all these podencos.

    We received the 78 filaria treatments that were needed and managed to have some extra treatments for the future as thanks to an auction carried out by volunteers of Podencoworld it was possible to create a piggy bank which we have already been using for new filaria positive arrivals.

  • Axarquia Animal Rescue, Malaga – stunning podencos waiting for forever homes.

    When I was at the PAES conference in Murcia in October 2015, I met some lovely ladies from the Axarquia Animal Shelter in Malaga. They have several podencos amongst the dozens of hounds they have in their care. Please get in touch with them direct if you can offer a place in your home and heart for one of them.

  • Portuguese Podengo – two lovelies needing forever homes

    ‘A friend of mine recently rescued this Podengo mother and her son. The mother (see pic)is a young adult and the youngster male is about 5/6 months old we think.
