  • Fundacion Benjamin Mehnert – saving the podencos in Sevillia

FBM Bashira 1 250 1 2016Here are stories from Levriers sans Frontieres about 2 podencos, now safe with Fundacion Benjamin Mehnert in Seville, and who will eventually come to France for forever homes.

Here’s the story of the first one, Bashira. After she was found at the roadside, throughout the journey to the shelter, she has not moved, not cried. she is so courageous and yet what she must suffer! She was rushed to the vet for urgent operation. Upon her arrival she was supported by Lillian, the veterinarian at the FBM, who took xrays. The legs are fractured, put in splints whilst waiting for an operation by the orthopedist. Under anaesthetic, her injuries have been disinfected and she was given antibiotic. This tiny podenca is barely a year old, what a terrible start to its life.

  • Podenco Maneto Bruno – urgently needs a forever home

Karen Dunn Bruno Maneto 190 1 2016This beautiful little boy is Bruno, a young Podenco Maneto found abandoned. He’s only 8-9 months old, certainly too young to be wandering the world on his own! The Maneto is a small type, similar to a dacshund in size, so suitable for smaller homes. He’s in southern Spain near Chiclana. Please contact Karen Dunn about him. In the last week they have taken in 6 abandoned dogs, they are overrun, so let’s find Bruno a forever home as soon as possible.

  • Room for a Reindenco? Lola is with TheKennelKlub on Lanzarote, Canary Islands.

LOLA was rescued from the same owner as ANGELIQUE just over a week ago. She is getting more confident, putting weight on nicely and her skin is slowly improving. She is a lovely dog, really affectionate and she loves to be loved. She is 8 years old so quite calm for a Podenco Canario. She is also small for her breed, currently 16 kilos. She gets on well with other dogs and children and is really friendly. She will be looking for a great home soon so please let us know if you are interested.

She is a new breed that has been discovered on the island of Lanzarote this year – a Reindenco! They are bundles of pure sweetness. Does anyone have room for a Reindenco in there home? PLEASE SHARE, she is with TheKennelKlub.

  • Living the dream in Spain?

Alejandra podencos field 250Life in Spain and the Canary Islands is hell for the majority of podencos. Here’s a heart-rending situation some young Spanish volunteers have discovered and they desperately want help to help the dogs…chiefly to get them into shelters (which are mostly full to bursting) and fund some operations. Alejandra tells the story.

‘I’m writing you from Sagunto, a small town on the outskirts of Valencia, desperately asking for your help due to the situation we are living.

About a month ago some girls and I found a group of hounds and hound crossings living in a extreme situation,

We found right away around 25 adult dogs between 6 months and 2 years old. 3 of them had recently given birth, with a total of 18 puppies only a week old.

  • Help needed for 2 young podencas in Jaen

    Fabienne Lola 3 170
This is an appeal from Fabienne Thys for help with two young podencas…they need foster and forever homes. Is there anyone who can help. These are their details.

Lola is living in the courtyard of a member of our association. We think she was pregnant in the summer but she disappeared before having her puppies. She reappeared last month (October) and alone.

Rubi is literally on the streets. She is being fed by some people but is very scared and hard to be approached. We need help to catch her and for somewhere for her to go in foster to help her adjust to life in a home, as she is in danger on the streets, both from an accident or getting pregnant again. A kennel will be no place for her.

Both podencas are in Jaen, Southern Spain and contact info is the following:
