Scooby Protectora – appealing for medicines
This is Podenco Max, he was born in 2004. He was rescued last weekend (22/23 April 2017) in Mazarron, Murcia, by the Scooby team, along with a couple of dozen more podencos and galgos, including puppies. He deserves somewhere to spend his twilight years – he’s lucky to have survived to this age in the hands of a galguero! If you have a comfy bed for him, contact Scooby.
With hundreds of animals in the refuges, Scooby is also running this appeal.
‘Some important things to treat our animals are starting to scarce… Like Amoxicillin + Clavulanic Tablets, Meloxicam Injection, Doxycycline Tablets and Syrup, Metronidazole Tablets and Syrup (Flagyl) and very urgently is needed IMMITICIDE. We also need shavers, field cloths, 6 + 1/2 sterile gloves, blue pathways (small) , oxygenated water and internal deworming … If you have some of these items and you would like to donate them to us, we will be deeply grateful.

Podenca Saffra – what a difference good food and love can make
What a difference love and food can make to a terrified starving podenco puppy. Little Saffra rescued 23 days ago and now she is looking so much better, has gained weight, her coat is getting a shine, she is negative for med diseases, a real sweetheart and ready to search for her forever sofa.
From a terrified puppy found all alone wondering where her next meal would come from sleeping out in the cold. With some tender loving care and good food, she is so much happier sometimes that is all it takes.

Podenco Footprints on Lanzarote
Regular readers will know that I have been appealing for help for the Canary Island podencos since I first created my blogs back in 2007. A prohibitive factor in the adoption of Podenco Canarios is the cost of flights to mainland Europe for forever homes. In the past three or four years there has been an explosion of publicity for these fabulous hounds, largely due to facebook pages. I’d like to introduce another Lanzarote group who are helping hounds in the Teguise area. Huella y Huella – footprints.
‘Huella a Huella is a group which raises awareness, sensitization and well-being in general to the animals in Lanzarote from schools to those working in the field of animal protection and promotion of awareness-raising actions.
So we want to create a set of which all form part, institutions, associations and citizens, and together, bring this great project to term.

GPAC – flying the flag for Podencos in Canada
Mary Macdonald is flying the flag for Podencos in Canada. She’s already adopted 2 and is about to get her third one. Here she tells her story.
“I am a volunteer for Greyhound Pets of Atlantic Canada (Branch Rep for my province of Prince Edward Island) and Galgos and Podencos of Atlantic Canada. It was though GPAC that I found out about these beautiful souls. I do meet and greets across my province, adoption applications and home visits.
We currently have 4 Podencos on PEI which I think is so wonderful for such a small Island. Our meet and greets and ” word of mouth ” are bringing attention to the podencos here and the rest of Atlantic Canada .

Malta – looking for a forever
This sweet little podenca is Malta, small Podenca Andaluz, rescued but in kennels, where she is still nervous. No one has asked for her so a foster home in Cordoba/Seville area is needed to help her gain confidence, or adoption.
Once she gains trust, she is sweet and affectionate and gets on well with other dogs.

Podencos at Pepis Dog Refuge, Pedrera, Seville
Just look at this beautiful rough-haired podenca, a recent arrival at Pepis Dog Refuge. She sounds an absolute sweetie and would love to have a forever home. Please get in touch with Pepis if you can help her.
She’s not the only podenca at Pepis, here are some more – little Vinny, only a young boy, and some handsome podenco cross too. And what about Bill and Ben, podenco/basenji cross. They have lost hope of finding a home and a hearth.

Remembering Podenca Jasira
This beautiful but sad photo is of Podenca Jasira, rescued by Bev and Warren of Podenco Friends and adopted by Manja in the Netherlands.
Here is her moving story and two videos showing just how a skeletal podenca can recover with the right care.
‘Two years ago at the beginning of March 2015 a very special Podenco Ibicenco named Jasira died. Her story moved me from the beginning: she was rescued by Beverley Farmer and Warren Beards, two human angels who live in Spain and spend all their time and energy to rescue these beautiful and extraordinary dogs.
She was more dead than alive when she was found. Even though she had experienced nothing but evil and harm from humans, she learned to trust them again and accept the love and care Beverley and Warren provided. Physically she seemed to recover very well, until a little over a year later she died. As sad as this was and still is, at least she had experienced what it means to have loving humans care for her. Her name means ‘courageous’ and that she was.
