Galgos France – helping the Gran Canaria podencos
Galgos France working with two British podenco rescue associations. News from GF website.
17/2/2017 Two of our protégés came out last week from the hell of the Canary pound: Bryonny and Rosetta are in a pension in Tenerife while waiting to leave for Irene in Alicante (Hope for Podencos) who will take care of them and arrange supplementary tests while awaiting adopters.
They will join Tianna who will soon leave with host family in the United Kingdom and Erica.
So there are 6 podencos sponsored by Galgos France that are still impounded. Penelope, Sweets, Spinet, Smiley, Lottie and Nancy …. Hopefully they survive until their release …

Why I adopted a Podenca called Reina
For those of you following the story of little podenca Reina – she who walks on 2 front legs! Here is the story written by her adopting Mom about why she chose this sweet and deserving dog.
Story from a Future Podenco Mother
After the loss of my former Podenco Takkie in December, I just only wanted to look on the Internet and get a good laugh to comfort me, by watching Podenco videos, knowing these dogs are the funniest in the world!
But the laugh turned into Love at First Sight, seeing Reina in one of the videos.

Podenca Reina in action!
Here is a short video of Podenca Reina, rescued badly injured from a Feria, Jaen road and now in foster care whilst the vets consider whether the splint has helped heal her off hind leg or whether they will need to operate on that one after all. The pix are a little quick but look at the video full screen and see just what an amazing little dog Reina is. She already has a forever home to go to in Holland where there is another podenco waiting for her! Thank you to those who donated originally towards the vet fees, and to Podencoworld who undertook to pay the rest.
Longer video, including her out walking in the fields with her fosterfriends.

Salvemos Podencos – two young podencos looking for forever homes
These two lovely young podencos have been in the shelter of Salvamos Podencos for months, they would love to have their forever families.
Erni has been at the shelter months, he’s a great podenquito, young, and very sweet. He was abandoned and took a while to catch but is now a happy dog, gets along well with all dogs. He needs need to know what it’s like to have a family.
This baby has been at the shelter for more than a year! Ros is charming, funny and very loving, loves cuddling, is a true love, loves to play. She was abandoned by her hunter at the perrera where she was saved from certain death. She’s very special with a lot of to give, at least one responsible for the reception.

Hunter hands over podenco pups – Podenco Friends building relationships
These three podenco pups arrived with Bev Farmer of Podenco Friends last week. Just over 5 weeks old and tiny wee things.
‘They have come from a local hunter who had a litter and asked through a friend a few days after they were born if we could help with some of them. He offered to keep them until they were weaned, all girls. We have to continue to build relationships with the local hunters and the owner of these has asked for us to keep them updated with the pups’ progress.
Thank you to Kay Barry who collected them for us and delivered them. it’s been a really stressful couple of days for various reasons and it was really helpful that she took a bit of pressure off us…. oh bliss, more puppy poop!’
After asking for name suggestions on her facebook page, Bev reports…

Saving the Lanzarote Podencos – TheKennelKlub and Podenco Friends
Ever since I became involved in the plight of the podencos and galgos back in 2007, as a member of a French rescue association fostering many we brought out of Spain, I have been publicising the terrible suffering of the Podencos in the Canary Islands. Their only hope of a forever life other than across the Rainbow Bridge is to be adopted on mainland Europe. In recent years new associations have formed in the USA and Canada and now many of these deserving and loving dogs are finding their forever sofas there. Bev Farmer of Podenco Friends is helping Laura Johnson of TheKennelKlub and the Lanzarote Podencos.

Podenco Friends – overflowing with podencos ready for adoption
A message from Bev Farmer, Podenco Friends.
‘Everyone has always answered our call to help sharing our podencos for adoption and we have had great success. But again we ask for you help. To find homes in Spain for Podencos is limited so we look to other countries and we ask for your help to share their details as much as possible. This is the lifeblood of any rescue unless people are aware we have so many waiting for their forever sofa they will remain here.
These are some of our ours for adoption, we have more that are not ready for their next stage in their lives. We have a number reserved for the new year but have come to a position where we can not accept anymore until some are re-homed. We don’t have space to take any more in. Unless stated all of them have been tested negative for Leishmania, Filaria, Ehlrichia, Lymes and anaplasma all are sterilised unless they are puppies. Thank you for your support

Axarquia Animal Rescue, Malaga province – podencos waiting in hope
It’s just over a year ago that I met, at the PAES conference in Murcia, 3 lovely ladies from Axarquia Animal Rescue in Malaga province. An important notice for anyone supporting them is that they have a new website – just one letter different from the previous one but very important that the new one is used!
They have some fabulous podencos waiting for forever homes – contact them direct if you are considering adopting a podenco. Here are some of them.
